Have you discovered a new genre or a particularly compelling new artist recently?
Tell us about it!
For me there have been two recent ones that have been a pleasure to chase through their discography:
1. Jon Hopkins. Electronic ambient creations from everyday and synthesised sounds. It doesn't seem like a promising prospect but the result is so well put together and so evocative of imagery that it just works for me. I close my eyes and just fall in.
2. Juliette Commagere. Daughter-in-law of Ry Cooder. Discovered singing in Chavez Ravine and haven't looked back. Lovely voice and interestingly different songwriting. Performs solo and with Puscifer.

Not that recent, but I think the last major 'discovery' on my part, and the one which impacted my listening to the greatest degree, was Symphonic Metal and many of its (sometimes quite ridiculous) sub-genres. Bands like Epica, Sonata Arctica, and Nightwish opened up a whole new avenue of musical interest for me.

I'd never listened to them. Thanks, I'll give them a go later.

I'd never listened to them. Thanks, I'll give them a go later. Not for me, I'm afraid!

As 'we' always say, if everyone liked the same thing it would be a bland and boring old world.

My favourite discovery of the last year is probably Agitation Free. I first found the album '2nd' and have played the bejeezus out of it since.

I recently discovered Xaver Fischer Trio and a few others on a podcast called thenewold.
I Listened to Xaver Trio and thought it was ok. Somehow it marinated in my mind and by second listen weeks later it really got into me. It's been a longtime since I found a group that I liked almost every track of an album from.
Between Jazz Pistols and Xaver Fischer Trio that's two groups from Germany that go right up my street.
