I guess it’s personal choice ultimately, but I preferred Mode 3 on the Caiman II and also with the SEG.

Its mode 4 but has 3 flashing lights to indicate. That's when using re-clocking

SOUND SIGNATURE MODE The Caiman MKII with the SFW3 firmware is capable of four diffe rent modes of audio data processing. To change between sound signatures an d modes, press and hold down t he SELECT button for about two seconds. Re lease the SELECT button as soon as the RED STATUS LED lights up. The firmware will now automatically s witch to the next data process ing option. One LED blink = Mode- 1 = standard XTAL data retrieval and proce ssing Two LED blinks = Mode-2 = optimized XTAL processing Three LED blinks = Mode-3 = DATA recovered clock processing mod e Four LED blinks = Mode-4 = PLL clock processing mode

Just for comparison, the Caiman SEG modes are: No LED blinks = Mode-0 = S/PDIF clock signal One LED blinks = Mode-1 = optimized XTAL processing Two LED blinks = Mode-2 = PLL clock processing mode Three LED blinks = Mode-3 = DATA recovered clock processing mode
For me, mode-3 is the best sounding mode.
