Imagine your system was been blown, swept or blasted out of existence by some freak natural disaster/act of God and the nice insurance man has just paid out in full. You have a newly decorated listing room and you need to fill it again. What would you do now? Buy the exact same setup, downsize, upgrade, audition from scratch, or go in another direction entirely?
I've moved house many times and I have often cleared out my hifi ahead of time, so I've kinda been there, except that my decisions after moving had to factor in an entirely new living space.
Assuming the same or similar listening space, I'd never choose anything other than Spicas. The rest might vary but not by much. I reckon the Sonneteers would probably stay as they continue to grow on me. Another Xerxes or TMS would be top of the shopping list.

I'd buy the same again, if I could find it all. It's taken too long for me to sacrifice all that learning. Anyway, I love what I have.

Pity they don't make the AP10PX any more. It seemed like an obvious advantage to have 2 inputs for such a small extra premium.

Sound-wise, do you prefer the Planet to the Naim CD3.5 Shane? Or is there something aesthetically/ergonomically that would give the Planet the nod? If you really like the Planet, I think you would love the mk1 Elicit. It has lots of similar qualities.

I don't really prefer one more than the other.
The Planet has a distinctive sound that appeals to me. It's hard to explain. So I'll leave it at that.
In my main system I'm using a Rega Apollo-R CD Player. The Apollo-R has a slightly similar distinctive sound like the Planet, but with more air and detail. The bass is more solid too.
I'm fairly fond of the CD3.5. The sound is more revealing than the Planet. it's a coherent player, and has good solid controlled bass. The presentation reminds me of the Rock turntable.

I like both too. In AB comparisons, the 3.5 is more clearly defined, but that doesn't mean a lot to me because it's a false way of listening which emphasises certain "qualities" and sometimes makes you miss the less tangible elements of musicality. I have had some very enjoyable times with the Planet and there aren't many CD players I can say that about.
I've got a CD3 in the living room right now. I have no idea how it compares to the 3.5 because this is my first ever CD3 and I haven't had a chance to compare it. It's also the only player I have used in the room. One day I'd like to compare them.

All the same kit, will take time as I bought most boxes 2nd hand so there will probably be intermediate steps. Yikes. Thinking about it this would be a problem. Ah, maybe not with new for old insurance. Would be painful spending all that dough though. Is it cos I is half Yorkshire ?

Why not, Mike? You can't take it with you when you pop your clogs.

Habit of a cheapskate lifetime.
Some items not available new so there will be ferreting and/or comparison work to do. With that in mind I would buy new and only have to spend the time for the items I cannot buy new.

I'd definitely go with an NVA setup again.

My system is a bit like Trigger’s broom I started it in the 60s and have replaced bits until I ended up with the system I have now as it gives me the sound I want. Probably I wouldn’t change anything much. I might go for a Composer Duo rather than the Solo and an extra arm pod but that’s about all. The hardware can be replaced at a price, though the Monitor Golds in Lockwood Academy cabs would be hard to source. The real problem is going to be the software, digital tracks can be got hold off for most things, but the 3000 albums, many out of print for decades, now they would be hard to replace.

That scenario would be disastrous for me. It's taken ages and a lot of goodwill from decent people for me to get my system so good and that's not easily replaceable.
I'd take the opportunity to noise a few of you lads up for a listen to some other systems. I'd also go out and listen to more valve equipment.
It'd be tricky for me to replace stuff as well - my AVC is highly modified and ANKs are hard to find. My theoretical insurance payout would only be about £600 as wel!
Don't think I could drag myself away from Audio Note speakers and I don't know what would better the AVC for the money.
To summarise, the £600 would be a start then I'd have to save up and find something. Preferably a commissioned amp.
