I would run in the other direction from Every KI signature that I've ever heard, Actually, I'd do the same with anything bearing a Marantz logo, especially their CD players. I was recommended a Marantz CD player. Coughed up 50 quid for it !
Beaten by an Arcam Alpha I picked up for free previouslyI've made that comparison too. The Arcam sounded full-blooded, rhythmic and musical. The Marantz........didn't. Ive even tried CD94 and the later CD80 to see if they got better when you spent more: Still as abrasive and strident as ever. Like getting raw bleach on your hands. Lovely build in the more expensive machines though, so I can only assume they are designed to sound the way they do.

Royd Sapphire. Had 2 pairs and they just sounded terrible. Nasty little things! Joe Akroyd makes exceedingly brash tasting cakes.
NVA Cubbette. What a complete waste of my valuable time and money. Again, had 2 pairs...Shit! Not a comfortable experience.
Audio Note ISIS Power Cord. Can't hear any difference! I'll stick with my lower-class kettle leads, thanks!
Q Acoustics 2010i/3010........CRAP!!!

I completely forgot about the abomination that was the Audiolab 8000A.
It sounded so bad I thought it needed servicing. It still sounded horrible after the service. What a waste of time and money. Thankfully people love buying them on ebay ...

You've reminded me of the Nordost El Dorado power cable I had. It was about as good as the TV programme of the same name. Utter shite and made anything it powered sound strident.

Nait 3 Ruark Broadswords, Chord dacs Not much love here for the Nait 3 or Ruarks. I always wanted to try the DAC64 though. Maybe I still might one day, but I don't really like the extra box count and wires a DAC brings. It's good to hear I'm perhaps not missing out.

Those little Cambridge Audio phono stages.
Never understood why people thought they were so wonderful. Yes they were cheap but made it sound like the speakers had socks covering the drivers ...

I had a 640p and it made me not want to listen to music. To give a drinks analogy, it reminded me of when you pour out the last few dregs of an orange squash bottle and try to make a full glass by adding too much water. You can tell you even pick up the glass that it's too watered down to be anything other than unpleasant.

Linn Unik wall-mounted speakers. Utter shite. Our barn had five pairs of them fitted and we're down to two pairs left in the kitchen. They sound like they have a single transistor radio driver inside, costing £1.50.

Thankfully people love buying them on ebay ... You know I had one of them - everyone(at the time) raved about them. Bought one s/h and it wasn't kept long. Never could work out what all the fuss was about.

Pal had a Marantz cd63 ki amp and cd. He'd hooked them up to bloody awful big Jamos. I never, ever want to hear that again. Never did hear that system with any other speakers so not sure what it was I didn't like. The General sound was awful though - a higher pitched version of the sorts of speakers you hear at fairgrounds. Unbearable

Cyrus Two and Audiolab 8000a were the two "top dogs" of their day in terms of reviews. I quite liked the original (plastic cased) Cyrus Two but it still wasn't as good as the Onix, Exposure, Myst, Nait or Intek for me.
I haven't had an 8000a to the best of my knowledge, although we did sell and demo it daily in the shop I worked at. I have owned an 8000C/P which was ok, but veiled. I also had an 8000LX which I quite liked even thought it wasn't remarkable. One thing I did like about the Audiolabs was the design, build and finish......until they went black....yuk!

Cyrus Two, although somewhat coloured, was infinitely preferable to the Audioflab IMO. Especially with the PSX. The design and looks was easily the best thing about the 8000A. I seem to remember they had one of these labels - remember them?

I had an Audiolab 8000A and quite liked it. Fair enough. I think I was maybe expecting too much after all the great reviews.
