Hi all from a very snowy Doncaster.
I've been listening to music all my life and used to be into hifi until the 90s when AV took over. I've recently started back on the road to HiFi but prefer collecting vintage 70s kit nowadays, especially shiny silver amps and receivers. I find the analogue sound really pleasing to my ear, particulalrly against budget modern equipment thats designed for a more clinical digital sound.
I also like the quality machined switches and knobs, in particular i find 1970s tuners are excellent at pulling in FM stations, the only downside being not having a present on the analogue dial. I guess you cant have everything.
My goal is to learn some basic electronics, so i can understand simple fault finding skils, as its an occupational hazard when buying used vintage equipment.
Be seeing you

Hi I dont have anything special,
Turntables are SONY X600, ARISTON RD11e HITACHI HT350, REGA RP3, Receivers are AKAI 1125, TRIO KR4070L, ROTEL RX303 Amplifiers are Pioneer SA508, Yamaha CA410 Tuners are AKAI ATK02, SONY ST333L, Yamaha CT510 Speakers are Wharfedale LINDALE XP2, Glendale XP2, Diamond IIIs, KEF IQ3 & IQ5, CELEF monitors
All in I reckon I paid around £800 - £850, will probably sell some of the items to fund a higher quality TT and cartridge
The AKAI tuner is actually fantastic at pulling in FM signals using nothing more than hanging some COAX along my picture rail. The AKAI amp is from their original lower range but is built with such precision, i just love it. Only 25wpc but works a treat in my office, especially listening to Classic FM.
I am listening to the Glendales through the Trio receiver and playing vinyl on the Ariston with a basic Ortofon FF15e MK2 cartridge/ stylus and for the money I paid it sounds wonderful. Hopefully now I have some base units to use, I can start being more selective and looking out for products higher up the food chain.

Hi and welcome to TAS Quite a bit of kit you have there I have a family room with a system, my office and a loft space which will be my listening room eventually. I don't like to be too far away from the ability to put on a record or listen to the radio.

Agreed in spades. *Cannot* be far from music.
I have 4 systems. 5 if we include the Russ Andrews amp and speakers the boss has connected to her PC.

My next purchase will be for something like a Garrard 401, Technics PLC990, Thorens TD 165, Linn LP12, then a really nice 1970s receiver amp 75wpc+ something like a Marantz 2270 / Rotel CR8080 / Pioneer SA9900 etc. If only my wallet matched my dreams

If you are interested, tonedeaf, for non-classical albums, we run something called Album Choice here at TAS, which is an opportunity for forum members to select an album and recommend it. Feel free to have a look around the Album Choice board to familiarise yourself with how it works. If you would like to join up, either let me know via PM or put something in the album choice discussion thread and I'll add you to the rota.

Hello from an also snowy Edinburgh! Some of that vintage kit is lovely - I'm a fan of the Luxman stuff myself. Never heard it but it looks good!
There's loads of really helpful folk here - post away with any questions you have and folk will help and not take the piss. Not too much anyway! I've picked up a fair wee bit off guys here and it's one of the best things about forums.
Enjoy!

Hi and welcome to The Audio Standard from me too. I lived not too far from you for a while - I managed some land in Bawtry and Retford for a few years. Nice to see a fellow receiver lover - I used to have an indecently large number of them (tuners too). I've thinned them down to just a couple of each now ...well, OK maybe three! We'd love to see some pictures of your gear if you don't mind indulging us - the 'Blogs and System Photos' section is where we usually post them, so if you feel like it, just start a new thread there. Cheers and welcome once again.

Hi Chris
I will get around to posting up some images, have afew things on this weekend, but will try and get the camera out in the next week or so.
I do hanker after a nice luxman receiver but they go for astronomical prices nowadays, and being vintage its being able to find someone with the skills to sympathetically repair them should they go wrong, which they are likely to as they are generally 35-40 yrs old.
