Just wondered if anyone else is affected by hypos and has any tips for coping with them.
I have had real issues with low blood sugar since I was a kid. I get some pretty full on symptoms with it. I'm ok if I have a constant supply of carbs (not good for my weight) or I get off them altogether (which can be a real trial in terms of symptoms). My best times were when I got onto the Atkins diet for about 3 years. His description of "hyperinsulinism" was a huge help as it clearly described why I'd been dealing with all my life.
Life here is just too tempting with the bounty of fresh fruit. Colder weather in the last fortnight has also led me to have pasta and potatoes a couple of times (big mistake) which has been very hard to shake off.
I looked into the chemistry of it all and I understand why I experience the symptoms I do. They include dizziness, confusion, extreme clumsiness (like a drunk), unable to breath through my nose, feeling like I'm suffocating, palpitations and drifting off into unconsciousness. I will get back on an even keel, but it only takes a couple of lapses with something like rice, pasta, potatoes or bread and I'm back to square one.
Right now I'm going cold turkey and staying carb free. Not much fun though.

I've never had a full-blown episode but, being diabetic, I can feel it coming on sometimes if I've injected and not eaten enough. I keep biscuits in the office and glucose tablets in the car and can deal with it quickly if I feel the symptoms (light-headedness, shaking hands, palpitations, feeling of not being quite in control) coming on. It usually passes without getting worse.
For a very quick resolution, keep some glucose energy tablets close by at all times.

I experience less than a tenth of that but fixed my much smaller problem eating small meals at the same time every day. Stopped the migraines too. Also avoid sweets as the down is unpleasant. Again nothing like yours

Thank, guys.
I think I'm going to have to go cold turkey and go back to zero carbs.
The worst effects are due to massive drops in blood oxygen levels due to low blood sugar. This also releases cortisol and adrenalin, which aren't exactly great for my temper when I'm already feeling like I'm suffocating.
For some reason sweets and sugar are far less toxic to me than rice, pasta, bread, pastry and potatoes. Whatever, I'm better off getting shot of the lot of them. I'll miss the fruit and smoothies, but the rest won't bother me.
