My new mate came round last night to listen to his amps driving my Isobariks before buying them.
Had never investigated mains related bits to systems before.
Spectral DMA50 power amp and Spectral preamp. Plugged them in a made a cup of tea while warming up.
My Rega Isis into the Spectrals with a Russ Andrews PBJ interconnect between Pre and power, Exposure Electronics speaker cable and Isobariks. Spectrals on 1p mains cables into Russ Andrews Purifier block, Russ Andrews HC into, shock horror, switched mains socket. Sounded ok, pretty good considering. Not right to me. Replaced 1p mains cables with Russ Andrews Signatures and put RDC cones under the amps. Much better, smoother sound, loads more bass. Tighter. Like a big kit upgrade.
Yes. He heard the big difference, mentioned it first. Think he is still assimilating.
Now I have some space I can do tests like this much easier and let people hear what they are missing

Apparently we're all wrong, Mike, and special power cables make no difference

Apparently we're all wrong, Mike, and special power cables make no difference Well, they probably don’t but if you think they do, then they do! I completely sign up to the theories of Psychoacoustics, but in my opinion, if you hear a difference that you perceive as an improvement to your sound then good for you. I would never knock it.

I heard a difference and waited ...... He was somewhere between surprised and amazed.
I will make a point of switching mains cables every new music or hifi visitor I get from now on. The newly available space I have and the proximity of a switched socket makes it quite easy.
Still find it hard to believe when I hear it. Mains deniers welcome to have their world rocked

We can only write what we hear and report on it, Mike. Some deniers will deny even in the face of what they hear.
I'll gladly demonstrate on my system to those who ask, but otherwise I'm more interested in listening than evangelising.

I was very sceptical that mains treatment would make any difference, but then I thought I’d give it a go after attending one of the shows a few years ago and bought a TCI 6-way block after hearing it demonstrated by one of the exhibitors. When I plugged it in to my system I was keen to hear something obviously, but was simply amazed by the difference it made.
Subsequently I have upgraded the power cable with Mike’s assistance and again I heard a substantial improvement.

As usual I'm a bit on the fence. I've no doubt you hear improvements and I'm not sure what the science says. Personally,I've got decent mains leads - I think the amount you lads spend is nuts but that's simply my opinion - mine were a lot cheaper and I've got a mains purifier thing. More than SQ I like the idea of electrical safety which is important.

I’ve heard improvements with mains leads in some homes and with certain kit. Other times it’s made no odds. Isolation/coupling has usually made improvements although I’ve had to experiment as to which works where.
It would be great if your new mate joined here because it sounds like he’s just at the start of his journey with both. Now you’ve opened his ears to the possibilities of both mains and coupling/decoupling, he will likely explore these two strands and have a chance add to to his own experience.

I just love the fact that if you cannot SEE what's going on in the background, the sound doesn't change and it's still great - I'm thinking coat-hangers as speaker 'cables' for example amongst other things.
I'm happy to recommend bog standard mains blocks on the proviso that maybe they're replaced every couple of years or so as the innards are sealed and possibly the contacts could tarnish.
Oh, and you are aware of an order in connecting things which can be audible and if you got the order (from inlet end to far end) different, this will chance perceptions too, especially if you place the power amp first and nearest the mains inlet to the block in repeatable first handed experience once upon a time - I place sources first automatically now, digital first.... There, that's my bit of foo and it's at no financial cost as well!!!!!
