Can't really remember the last time I listened to an album all the way through - I'm much more a playlist kind of bloke. Time constraints and the skip button work against that. I've started this to avoid sidetracking another thread. and I don't do vinyl. Thoughts please....

Basically - yes. I have iTunes set up in Smart playlists but have albums within them where applicable for non classical stuff. The classics are also smart playlists but then composers and works rather than albums. Can I vote both? If not I suppose playlists is first but doesn't really mean what it will say

Is this the first poll? Do I win a chequebook and pen?

Maybe the title to this should be 'most often' as it's rather open at present as even I do both on occasion. As stated previously I really don't do playlists, in fact I positively dislike them and the absolute worst thing is shuffle play, that I can safely say I hate So always albums from start to finish, unless I'm having a party.

I listen to albums but often with LPs I play one side and go onto another LP. With CD I might skip to favourite tracks after the first few. Digital can't hold my attention to the same degree as analogue sound. Voted albums.

That's a fairly unanswerable question for me. If I've just bought a bunch of cheap CDs on Amazon (God bless zoverstocks) then I'll listen to CDs. At other times I'll pick a genre on JRiver (my genres include Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, and Al Stewart amongst others, as well as multiple "actual" genres) and cherry pick from the selections therein. Or I might just grab a CD and play that for no other reason than it suddenly came to mind and I haven't heard it in ages. If pushed, I suppose albums, which is how I've voted.

Albums for sure
Only exception is/are my John Peel tapes which are many and various with some wonderful, accidental segways that are now fixed in my head.

Another vote for albums. All of my playlists are just whole albums!

Interesting results so far, but you can only really do playlists if you are digital I guess, unless you made mix tapes? I used to love mix tapes . . .

I'm very old fashioned in some ways, and I grew up during the vinyl LP's heyday. There are so many great songs on albums that never got released as a single and rarely got radio airplay as a result. That, and the pains that were gone to to get the correct running order for an album - there was a lot of craft going on. Crime Of The Century wouldn't work anything like as well if the songs were in a different order. Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band has a perfect running order too, and it's not the way it is by accident. Aqualung is another one.
So for me it's album every time. Once in a very occasional while I might have a random playlist running on the Squeezebox, but it is an extremely rare event. I haven't run one for the last couple of years at least ....

Crime Of The Century wouldn't work anything like as well if the songs were in a different order. Darned right Chris - I find it sad that albums get chopped up now, the sequencing of an album is an art and artists spend a lot of time anguishing over it. Easier these days though without the constraints of 25 minutes or so each side, still very important to most musicians, unless its a pure pop record where anything goes (not that I listen to much pop).
