Neil Young + Promise of the Real - The Visitor (2017)
Following on from the success of our Admin Special in 2017, here is another recently released album as a New Year treat for you to review and vote upon. This album was released on December 1st 2017 and is Neil Young's second album with Lukas Nelson's (Willie's son) band and shrewdly eschews stereotypical angry songs for warm, pretty and even funny protest music, written in response to President Donald Trump's campaign slogan of Make America Great Again. I like this more than I thought I would after I heard the first track. As an opener, for me it was very poor and disappointing, but the album gained momentum, think I will go 7/10 based on this.

I've tried several times with this album. I've often found NY a bit Marmite but this one in particular grates quite bit. 5/10.

Cracking album, I would actually score it 8.5 if I could, but as I can't and I like NY and totally love POTR, it gets 9/10.

I am leaning towards an 8 for this, but then I have only played it once. It reminds me of something NY said a few years ago, about the people of his generation singing modern protest songs. They shouldn't really have to still be doing it, should they?

Bought the vinyl at extortionate price as it is only 3 sides of music and 140 gram. Fortunately it's a great pressing and comes with a decent Lyric booklet. Not sure about the opening track but it picks up nicely from there. I think this is his best since Psychedelic Pill and sort of reminds me a bit of Ragged Glory. Deserves a 7 but may grow on me more.

Only a 6 from me. I'm not averse to a bit of Neil, but I do hate being constantly preached too, especially when some of the lyrics are almost impenetrable. I liked a couple of tracks, but only because they reminded me of the "old" Neil.

I'm a big Neil Young fan
One of the greatest artists of this generation so thought this would be better than the 5/10 I voted Disappointing. But you never know what the next one will be like !
