That gets my goat is that some modern cheap arse Stereo equipment sounds better than older say 80's Gear ie Phono stages. Really grinds my gears because the build quality & looks of old are all gone with the cheap modern day stuff. Its obviously not rubbish as far as sound quality goes but someone that finds build quality & such of paramount importance sends ones brain into overload..
At the Moment i have a Two box Kinshaw Perception stood, The tiny £150 phono stage i just bought sounds a lot better to me but the principles of what i believe in drives me nuts.

1) put up with the modern gear's looks 2) forget SQ and use the old gear

Option 3 may be to go fir something modern that is still built to the same standard, maybe McIntosh, Luxman or Accuphase? Not cheap though.

Option 3) Accept the things you cannot change, have the courage to change the things you can and the wisdom to know the difference.
Get there and life is a lot less stressful, almost enjoyable even.
