Well someone was going to do it
So, firstly, Merry Christmas everyone.
But in a world that seems to have so much negativity It would be nice to have a thread of positive happy news at Christmas.
Comfortably trumping my personal happiness now a horrible ear condition seems to be over is the news that my son and daughter are seeing my niece and nephew on the 27th.
My younger brothers relationship with his partner broke down about 5 years ago. For a couple of years he saw his twins ,William and phoebe, regularly. Then suddenly he stopped seeing them completely and we all lost contact. No response to birthday cards and presents sent. My parents, who are undoubtedly in the very latest phase of their life were devastated that they would never see their grandchildren again.
And then, a couple of weeks ago my daughter "friended" phoebe (now 14) on Facebook. And now she and Tim will see the twins over Christmas. And then they plan to take my parents over to see the twins.
Happy Christmas!

I'm not sure about merry, so I'll go with Peaceful Christmas, everyone!
Funny how our children (Ruth's two and my son) are the subject of so much discussion, angst, help and future hopes. However, it's great to be having them all together, to kick back and enjoy their company with no agenda whatsoever.
Wishing everyone here a happy break!

Merry Christmas to everyone. And be careful out there. A lot of guys are drinking heavily this year and letting their wife drive.

In the spirit of recycling, I shall re-use this thread, which contains some interesting names. So, to friends, enemies, frenemies, whatever, old and new...

Sir Humphrey Appleby: "I wonder if I might crave your momentary indulgence in order to discharge a by no means disagreeable obligation which has, over the years, become more or less established practice in government service as we approach the terminal period of the year — calendar, of course, not financial — in fact, not to put too fine a point on it, Week Fifty — and submit to you, with all appropriate deference, for your consideration at a convenient juncture, a sincere and sanguine expectation — indeed confidence — indeed one might go so far as to say hope — that the aforementioned period may be, at the end of the day, when all relevant factors have been taken into consideration, susceptible to being deemed to be such as to merit a final verdict of having been by no means unsatisfactory in its overall outcome and, in the final analysis, to give grounds for being judged, on mature reflection, to have been conducive to generating a degree of gratification which will be seen in retrospect to have been significantly higher than the general average."
Jim Hacker – "Are you trying to say 'Happy Christmas', Humphrey?"
Sir Humphrey – "Yes, Minister".
