Quinteto da Paraíba - Música Armorial (1996)I first came across this when i went along to one of my Dad's friends for a listen to his Quad Electrostatics. He travels to Brazil regularly as he owns a holiday villa out there, and played this to us as an introduction to Brazilian Classical music. I was hooked instantly, particularly liking the last track, which reminds me of the sound of donkey's hooves clattering along the road. Spotify:

For me, Toada E Dobrado da Cavalhada is by far the standout track, but I really like the rest of the album too.

List of composers for those that, like me so far, may want to explore further... Track 1-3 Clovis Pereira Track 4 - Ann Onymous Track 5 - Antônio José Madureira Track 6 - Lourenço da Fonseca Barbosa Track 7 - Antônio José Madureira Track 8 - Maciel Jarbas Track 9 - Clovis Pereira Track 10 - Antônio José Madureira Track 11 - Antônio José Madureira Track 12 - Antonio Carlos Nobrega d'Almeida Track 13 - Antônio José Madureira Track 14 - Antônio José Madureira Also, here's an AllMusic link so you can click on the track, click on the composer and find other works by them that are in the AllMusic database. I've already found a Clovis Pereira Cello concerto to track down.

Good place to find out information on new artists, Paul. I use it a lot.

Just finished playing it and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Parts of it could have been Aaron Copland's South American cousin and all of it was a delight to listen to. Almost but not quite a 5, I'll have to give it a 4.

Ooh I recognise some of this, must have been used as incidental music somewhere. Sounds lovely, will rate it later.

I had only been able to listen to it on Spotify before, so glad to get it. The last time I looked out for it, it was a minimum of £30, probably because it had to be imported.

That's an easy 4 from me.
As a whole it sounds very fresh and vibrant to my ears. The performance has a great zest and energy about it.
Would have been a good inclusion in the BBC's String Quarterts programme!
I think it dips a little around the middle of the recording but still very enjoyable from start to finish.
Track 3 would have to be my particular favourite.
Thanks for sharing PaulD.

Did you hear what I meant about the donkey's hooves on the last track?
