No only sports cars get recycled in that flavour of soup , as there wasn't much room in them when they were cars

I know someone with a 1965 Saab '96 say he would never ever part with it. Says it's the best car he's ever had..

I know someone with a 1965 Saab '96 say he would never ever part with it. Says it's the best car he's ever had.. I've driven one of the old 'bubble back' Saabs (forgive me, I forget the model) and it was.... an interesting experience. The one I drove had a peppy little V4 motor which sounded wonderful, however the brakes were truly awful, in fact they nearly caught me out rolling up to a T junction (oops). I could be mistaken here but I seem to remember that a rather unique feature of the car is that the engine is disengaged from the drivetrain when coasting, which makes the lack of braking performance a little bit more botty clenching. Road holding was very good, especially considering its age (memory is a little hazy here as this was around twenty five years ago but I'm sure it hailed from the late 60's or early 70's.). The thing I remember most though was the spectacular amount of body roll it generated even in slow corners. Apart from this though it was fun to drive once I got used to it and it was built like a tank...

Are you refering to the Ford 'Taunus V4' engine?
However people, as with vintage H-Fi please don't pull them down.. they are vintage items with technology of the day.. aspects of vintage technology are obviously not evident in modern products which totally does not render them not worthy in fact quite the reverse. They are cars of the day & jolly good fun to own & drive.

I'm not knocking them André, as I said it was an immense amount of fun to drive however I wasn't used to its quirky characteristics so consequently they caught me by surprise. I nearly crapped myself pulling up to that junction, not sure how I would have explained to its owner, who'd just finished restoring it, that I'd trashed it...

Only had one Saab, a 90 a lifetime ago. I found it boring and swapped it for a TR7 which was quite good fun. Swapped that for a 3 litre Capri Ghia auto which was even more fun but hopeless round corners. Then bought a Manta GTE. Ah bliss, a car that handled & braked properly, went as quick as the Capri and didn't go wrong. Ended up having three of these, excellent.

Aye the original early 70's Opel Manta 'A' & 'GT/E' were great cars. Looked great too.

My uncle had one of these, same model and colour as this one. Lovely car and quick too...
As much as I like the Manta however it was my best mates mum's Kadett Cuopé which really did it for me, hers was like this one but completely yellow...
