What I've found interesting from frequenting Hi-Fi forums since 2011 is the way gear comes and goes for some people, with only one seeming to make any sense (Jerry). One second it's 'blowing them away', dropping their jaw to the floor or a night & day difference/best they've ever heard, then a few months later it's up for sale - which genuinely puzzles me.
I know it's not everyone who changes things around, but is there anything Hi-Fi, instrument or music related that you would never want to part with?
I don't have much that fits this description having moved so many times and needing to sell/downsize. The only items I would be reluctant to part with are a handful of signed LPs & CDs, my David Bowie records, a Quad 405-2 and a few plectrums from artists, one in particular from Shelby Lynne which she handed me in a very personal way.
So not much here, have you got anything particularly precious?

I have one thing that is precious to me which is my jbe series 3 deck. I bought it as Id always wanted one and it was delivered about 10 minutes after we got home from the hospital with my son, so I have an emotional attachment to it. I have moments of madness about selling it every now and then but dismiss it every time. I dont change my system very often, but always have the jbe as a yardstick. Dont really care too much about tue rest of it

My speakers, Tim. I may yet swap a component or two in the future (although my system has been pretty settled for a few years now) but I know that I have my final speakers. The Ushers do EVERYTHING I look for in music reproduction: they are fluid, dynamic, have vocal purity, bass, scale and authority.
If I had to part with them I would cry.

I think that the "emperors new clothes" syndrome is often to blame. I have been there myself several times. As I have made a lot of DIY amps I can swap about and always feel smug that I made them myself for not a lot of money. Speaker wise I have also made some, and refurbished some that have been gifted to me so again I can swap about as the mood takes me. There are a few things I would not part with, an MF X-Tone I got many years ago in the local small ads for £45 (I saw one go on ebay recently for over £300), a DIY Pass B1, and my Behringer ultramatch DAC that for £100 has so many functions inc an analogue to digital converter and has balanced ins/outs, selectable sampling rates, dither and other things to mess about with......oh and my ebay 6J1 £9.50 preamp!.....erm that is more than one thing

I am very reluctant to get rid off my music collection (stored in boxes now) I do not have any need to keep gear although not used my turntable for a few years and no plans to sell I know at some point I use it again

I am very reluctant to get rid off my music collection (stored in boxes now) Ah yes, doh of course! What a twit I didn't think of that too John (senior moment). I guess I was making an assumption, so forgot to list them. My collection is all archived in boxes as well John, but having said that I am only retaining them for copyright purposes and if the unthinkable happened and I lost all my backups. But the CDs themselves are pretty much superfluous now. Would I get shot of them all if I didn't need them for copyright purposes, now that's a question? In all honestly probably not, but they are dead space now.

I've done a fair bit swapping about but think that's all done now. Apart from valves. For sound for £ value I reckon it's as good as it gets.
That's not to say it'd be the same if the lottery came in......

Spicas. I've had literally hundreds of other speakers and they just do it for me.

Tim Hi-Fi enthusiasts are not wired up correctly. You gotta understand that. The amazing amount of Self justification is worth a topic alone

Tim Hi-Fi enthusiasts are not wired up correctly. You gotta understand that. The amazing amount of Self justification is worth a topic alone I was more after what people really valued in their musical life, than trying to understand why, which of course is nigh on impossible as we are all individuals.

Vinyl is everything about the hobby for me..but the sheer cost of what i want to buy always forces me to go the digital file route. However Digital sounds clearer than the old LP's aswell as a million time cheaper but are far from sounding right.. Tortured soul i am
