Good shot of the bridge there, Colin.
I love visiting London (my home town) but I also love leaving it these days!

Maybe it's because i'm a Londoner.....that I love London Town..... I get to London rarely these days having been born in St Thomas's hosp and brought up in Lavender Hill. This has nudged me to get back and see the sights. St Katherine's dock just around the corner from Tower Bridge is interesting.

I'll tell you what's great fun if you have the chance - the high speed RIB boats down to Canary Wharf and back.
We did this for my mum's birthday and it was a blast ...

Nice pics. Know it well.
Did my time commuting in, by train. At least it was a short walk from Waterloo to place of work. I used to walk all around the south and north banks during long lunch breaks...

Did my time living in Kings Cross. It was great then but I don't miss it now.

When I young lad and even into my teens I always thought that, say the West End was miles away from Battersea and a place only to go if you really had to. Since moving out to't sticks 40 years ago and having to drive at least 10 miles to a DIY store, or further to Chichester or Guildford for decent shopping, I can't believe that places in that London are so close together

22-and-a-bit years (1971 to 1993) man and beast, working in the square mile and its environs, mostly spent in Great Tower Street EC3.
I've actually just Googled "Great Tower Street" and the image it comes up with, alongside the map, is the building I mostly used to work in, or out of, on the corner of Great Tower Street and St. Dunstan's Hill. Nice to see a few of the pubs we used to drink in still exist too. Happy daze days.

Got 'used' to London, working there for many years. Occasionally/rarely visit these days. Being so built up it has changed less than a lot of places I know so still so familiar. May well be more my town than any other

I got to know the Underground very well in my youth and could whizz around easily. I even played the game of going to the end of a line to see what was there. I remember seeing the Victoria line being built, let alone the Jubilee line and now the Elizabeth line! I also travelled on sections, like Epping to Ongar and Holborn to Aldwych, that don't exist any more.

Have you ever had the opportunity to go down to a disused station, Martin? My Dad used to work for London Underground and for a period ran the District Line, and tells me about the times he went and visited some of the abandoned stations... It sounds all too eerie for me.

My Dad used to work for London Underground and for a period ran the District Line, and tells me about the times he went and visited some of the abandoned stations... It sounds all too eerie for me. We found an entrance off of King William Street (if memory serves) which led to some of the old underground wartime 'bunkers' complete with many of the original posters and signage still on the walls. There were loads of tunnels that we didn't explore; it really was a maze down there in some places. Then of course there's Faraday Deep Level, but if I told you about that I'd have to kill you as knowledge of it is one of the reasons I had to sign the Official Secrets Act in the seventies...despite James Herbert giving a very good description of it, in 'The Rats' if I recall correctly.

Paul (x2), there is a station between Camden Town and Kentish Town called South Kentish Town that my friends and I had a good look around, but we never found a way down. You can still see that it was clearly an Underground station with its maroon coloured tiles. A policeman friend of mine told me about Faraday Deep Level and other tunnels under Regents Park, all close to where I used to live in Camden Town.
