Delivered the 330D to Partridge BMW first thing yesterday morning for it's first MOT and brake fluid change.
We then headed for Southampton and lunch in John Lewis.
West Quay shopping centre was very busy (I think the whole world must have taken the day off).
I didn't buy anything, but Irene purchased a 32" LED Sony Bravia 1080p flat screen to replace her ageing bedroom TV (Screen 2). It was reduced to £319.00 and came with a free 5 year guarantee.
I was expecting far more great deals in the shops and online, to tempt consumers, but I was disappointed.
Did anyone else get a great deal yesterday?

Nothing here. I stayed away from the mass of email offers I received and Black Friday doesn't exist in Cyprus......yet.

I did try looking for a new exhaust for the Merc but couldn't find one. Ended up with no "Black Friday" deals.
Incidentally,is it called that due to the racial majority that seem to be waiting at the start line at all the stores?

I was nearly tempted by huge discounts on Logitech 'clever' remotes, both via Amazon, and from Logitech themselves. Being a cynical B*** myself I suspect the discounts are because they're just about to bring out a new model..

I've boycotted it for a few years now and will continue to do so, I also don't ever get caught up in the Christmas merry go round. I don't have children so it really shouldn't bother me what we're doing to the planet with our relentless consumerism, but it does bother me. I've been trying for awhile now to have less impact by really being strict about what I buy, 'do I need this, or do I just want it' is the question I ask myself. I do fly and that's something I'm going to have to look at seriously in the future. I try to walk as much as I can and use buses and trains as much as I can too. George Monbiot puts it a lot better than I can, but this is exactly my stance - Too right it's Black Friday: our relentless consumption is trashing the planetI also boycott all Nestlé products, Apple Inc., McDonald's and most other fast food outlets that use farmed beef - not that fast food features much in my life, I cook at home from scratch. Curmudgeon I maybe, but we are going to be looked at in decades to come as the wasteful, selfish generation. #BuyNothingDay

Thank goodness Black Friday is over and it's now, apparently, Cyber Monday...with exactly the same offers.

Tim - so you won't be buying anything on Cyber Monday then?? Too right, unless you count going to Tesco and buying food? Nothing bought on-line today and I've not even looked, not will I. And all the darned emails with either Black Friday or Cyber Monday in the text, well they get deleted immediately. Re generations of waste Paul, I think it won't be long (hopefully) before the penny drops for the younger generations that this has to stop, especially those that want a family. I think the current consumers on the planet are the worst, education is needed, with strong government and concerned parents. But we will reach a tipping point, how fast that occurs is down to us, but there is a huge elephant in the room that people are largely ignoring due to 'well I'll be gone when the shit really hits the fan, so f*** it' That's a dreadful legacy to leave the future custodians of the planet.

That's a dreadful legacy to leave the future custodians of the planet. See the Trump thread. Head in the sand, pump more oil, don't sign up to the Paris climate accord, bollocks to the rest of the world.

I get enough Trump on Twitter Martin. As you may imagine I follow a lot of US artists and they are all very vocal about their leader, I'm surprised at the level of vitriol to be honest and the amount of time they devote to it. To say he's not popular would be the understatement of the century!

Black Friday is yet another event that has leeched it's way across the Atlantic. As has been stated above it's purpose is to generate a buying frenzy by offering 'supposed' bargain's for a limited time span, nothing new there really.
For my perspective it appeals to the E-bay minded individual's thought process, in fact the true bargain's are few and far between, I would even further suggest that possibly manufacturers now tie in possible end of life stock programs in an attempt to stimulate more sales.
Personally did not buy anything other than a replacement soldering iron other than because it was required, not just because I felt the need to spent some money lol
Mind you at the moment they are a good number of pretentious folk around who feel the need to spend it and willy wave about their new wonderfully 'cheap' purchase or E-bay style 'members' who use the services of one outlet and secrete a sale from somewhere else.
Case in point, a good friend of mine runs a Mercedes outlet, nice place, solid staff, good atmosphere etc. Potential new customer goes into the branch a couple of months ago, test drives a SL400 for the day, a really nice example spotless, low miles etc.
Makes all the right noises, smiles, very plausible, well mannered etc, then just disappears off the face of the earth.
last week the dealership gets a call from the AA can they drop off a car as it has a serious problem could they investigate, turns out its the same chap, only he purchased from a dealer way up north at a 'wonderful' price yes it had a warranty, turns out the the wonderful purchase is a not so nice E63 AMG in need to some serious TLC which is going to take some time and some money, plus all the hassle.
Khama just works some times
