They never fetched a good strong signal without one of those though!

The Yamaha will benefit from that big array too, I should think.

I just have a 4 element thing, much smaller than what I used to have, but then, I don't need anything so big, as I get all the signal strength I need in this location with the little one.

I used to have a Hitachi FT5500-II, lovely tuner but long gone. The only FM I listen to now is in the car and that aerial would look silly on the roof

My fav was the A&R Cambridge 'T21'. The Green/Red LED display was very cool but ultimately useless. However that tuner would pull in stations with no Ariel connected..

Being a black one it will be a bit newer than most of the silver ones. Not that that will make a difference after all this time! Very nice though. I never had a big Yamaha tuner, though I was a bit of a tuner maniac at one time. I had a big clearout of tuners and receivers about 12 years ago, leaving myself with just a couple of each.
...OK, maybe two or three.

This is a Galaxie by the late Ron Smith. Ron was a great mate of mine and back in the day he installed all the aerials in the JVC(UK)Ltd offices and service department for me. He also put in a number of rotating systems for me for both FM and TV. Ron also made aerials for the BBC engineering monitoring department. At one point I had a Galaxie/Orion FM/TV hybrid on my house in Stoke Newington, that with my JVC JT-V77 tuner could resolve France Inter cleanly and in stereo and that is broadcast from the Eiffel Tower!! Sadly the great storm of '87 brought that and my chimney down so after talking to Ron we went with separate unints and guy lines. The Galaxie 23 he built for me on site in the mobile workshop/van worked as well. His son George is still running the company and next year I plan to have them put up an aerial in this house. I'm using a communal FM feed at the moment, which is rubbish.
Here is the one I used to have. BTW if anybody remembers the late Angus MacKenzie of HFN&RR, Ron did all his aerial systems too. It was Angus who introduced my to Ron in the first place.
