Hi there, I found this forum after visiting TAOS forum. My name is Patrick and I am 67 and living in Antrim Northern Ireland. My current hifi set up consists of Denon PMA-400 integrated amp Denon TU-300 Tuner Novafidelity X12 CD ripper/streamer Project Carbon Black turntable Beresford Caiman 2 DAC gator/venom modified Jamo Power 100 speakers
I stumbled upon a Bushmaster some time back and have closely followed the forums on the subject of evolution and upgrading of these Beresford DACs. I find it rather unique that there is a DAC designer out there who is involved with getting feedback from end users and then continuously improving the product. I think it is great and I don't know of any other organisations doing this kind of thing so openly.
After having already owned 2 of Stan's fine products, I recently purchased a secondhand Caiman 2 with 12v linear PSU from someone who is obviously a fan of Stan's work and had modified the DAC with the firmware and gator/venum upgrades. Can't think what possessed him to sell it but I am not complaining.
I love the clarity, depth and 3D effect that this DAC produces. I am enjoying my music even more now. I tend to listen to internet music using the Novafidelity X12 player. The quality and clarity of the music is great even though it is streaming MP3 at 128kbps. The Novafidelity X12 is a very underated player IMHO. The Denon copes well with the Caiman with no problems.
Thanks for your time
Patrick

Hi Patrick and welcome from me.
I'm not a digital man but would fully concur with your endorsement of the way Stan runs his business!
Thanks for sharing details of your system - what kind of music do you enjoy?

Hi Patrick
Welcome to TAS. Stan does indeed make mighty fine DACs. Be interesting to know how it competes with DACs well above the prices Stan sells them for. I'm guessing £1000. Anyone know ?
Currently listening to the highly recommended Jan Hammer - Melodies from YouTube via Volumio, Raspbery Pi and the inbuilt DAC on my Isis. Must compare my Caiman to that one day

Hello and welcome to TAS, Patrick. Stan is a member here and there are lots of us using and modifying his DACs.

Hi Patrick and welcome to TAS. I’m a big fan of Stan’s DAC’s having owed three in my time, with the Caiman II in my current system.

I have a deep interest in listening to smooth jazz, chillout, lounge. But also a broad interest in more mainstream music too.
I enjoy listening to artists such as Michael E, Paul Hardcastle, Christophe Goze, to name just a few.
My son complains that the music I listen to is boring...because there are rarely any words... Go figure!! Youth of today and all that.
Some of the Michael E tracks sound fantastic and the Caiman II really brings out the depth.
I guess that I am just lucky that all my components young and very old seem to compliment each other and give me a very satisfying sound.

Who needs words !?
Too often the vocalist gets in the way. Have a look at my footer and have a go with them
All wonderful, quite a mix and not too many currently in your areas. I'll go digging for more Bajofondo Tango Club - Rainer Ptacek - Ciccone Youth - Bruce Hornsby - Manfred Mann's Earthband - UNKLE - The Fall - Wire - John Hiatt - Audioslave- Chris Cornell - Temple of the Dog - Joan as Policewoman - Tangerine Dream - Steeleye Span - Arvo Part - Toumani Diabate - Pete Yorn - Chris Spedding - The Drum Club - Holy Fuck - Art Brut - Brad - Tinvall Trio - The Pop Group - Tanghetto - Leo Kottke
Think you will love Acoustic Alchemy, Amorphous Androgynous, Future Sound of London, Banco de Gaia,Brand X, Jeff Beck, Jan Hammer for starters
