I will have to add to this and edit as I remember......
My hifi journey started with music and finding out the transistor radio in my bedroom was great but then I realised my parent's stereo radiogram downstairs sounded much better - and went louder !
Next door neighbour John had a 'hifi' which was a bit odd in the early 60s Think it was primarily Nikko with home built speakers I wanted something like that. I yearned for it Along came a Stuzzi (?) tape recorder to copy from the radio, then a Philips that did stereo ! Most of my music was tape, reel to reel and remained that way for many years, taping records I liked, missing tracks I didn't and assembling tracks and concerts, (mostly prog man) from the radio.
I made, badly a Sinclair amp around 1970 and fortunately I had a very helpful guy at Henry's redo it for me - what a hero. This was driving some old Telephone Rentals broadcast speakers.
Having Rank Audio as a customer was very helpful as I managed to pick up a Rotel Amp at staff prices, working for Rank Xerox I was sort of staff, and heard the wondrous Leak 2075 speakers, later picked up at Laskys for a bargain price
Early to mid 80s I thought I had reached the peak with my Linn LP12, Naim 25 and Isobariks - I had, perhaps for the early 80s...
more as it comes to me

I used to love roaming around Laskys (and the nearby Lion House), lusting over components I could hardly dream of owning.
Bet you wish you'd kept those Leak speakers now.

Hi Mike,
Set fire to a few of Sir Clive's project the latest about 20yrs ago his electric bike. I was making my own kit in the early 60's with the help of Dad and Granddad both engineers. Dad bought my first transistor for me from Newby Radio's Romford a GET01 it cost him ten shillings, I still have it. Fun days.
