Anybody have experience of these ? I know Clive197 has and he's kindly shared his thoughts - Anyone else ?
I'm looking to upgrade my Mission 752 Freedom floor standers before the year is out.
I've loved the Freedoms and want a genuine upgrade that shares their qualities ie:
Non fatiguing, great in the mids, vocals etc, natural sounding, balanced and detailed (hence Spendors were suggested to me a while back and I've been drawn to the brand since)
Room is Wooden floor, 4 meters by 3 meters
Amp is completely re-built, upgraded, re-capped Sansui AU-919 and a heavily modded Technics SL1210 MK5G with Ortofon Cadenza Black mc

I'll be following this post as I've been recommended D7's to replace my old KEF Reference speakers and I'm not 100% sure they'll be an improvement !

The D9 is reviewed in this months HiFi World. My view is you need to go out and listen, your budget is not huge, maybe consider used ? NS1000M or big Usher ?

Non fatiguing, great in the mids, vocals etc, natural sounding, balanced and detailed If that's your brief I would try to listen to some Harbeth speakers too? I favour vocals and acoustic music and the Harbeth midrange for me is hard to beat. It's also the least fatiguing speaker I've ever owned, it's just a natural honest speaker. I like the sound of live music, not the sound of Hi-fi and I believe they differ in most cases. Harbeth speakers sound like music not Hi-fi, subjective I know, but that's my opinion. They aren't as wife friendly as a modern Spendor though. I live by myself so it doesn't matter, if I had a partner I'm sure it would be Spendor in my front room

I've never listened to Harbeth but would definitely like to - how are they for bass?

Harbeth and Spendor often get spoken about in the same conversations so thats a good thing.
Just to clarify I'm after floor standers like the D7, size-wise, so wife friendly / attractive and above all else sound good, hence the interest in D7's.(Prior to that I was close to trying some Spendor S8e's)
The D7 is said to be easy regards placement too which is another plus.
I have a Billy Vee close by so may pop in whenever I get the chance and see if they've some I can listen to.
If they have I might even be cheeky and see if I can get demo in my house (Dont ask dont get)

Not really heard many Spendors. I used to have 'BC-1' & then 'SP-1'.. but that was all a long time ago now. The last ones i had was 'S20'..

Rob I would take a good look at Audio Physic speakers - I think they would fit your brief very well. Here's a pic of my old Virgo speakers. Superb imagers, very transparent and dynamic with punchy bass. The only reason I sold them was I couldn't get the sideways firing bass drivers to work in my space. Very handsome too I thought ... If I was going to get another pair my preference would be for one from the original designer, Joachim Gerhard - he left fairly recently to set up a new outfit - Suesskind Audio.

I use spendor sp1s-the sound you are looking for is what they produce. About £600 would get you a lovely pair and if possible with the castor stands. My wife adores them for the sound they make and has banned me from selling them.
I haven't heard new spendors or harbeths but both would be right up my street.

Tell u why they are magic, Because every other stand i tried me no likey.. 'BC1' & 'SP1' were designed to use with those stands & no matter what New fangled way that has been planted in peoples heads is a no no imho.. Same with the KEF '104'/'104AB'.. The original low open frame stands are best..
