Yesterday I was visiting this palace in Copenhagen which would have seen many a waltz in its time ... Not long ago I wouldn't have touched a collection of Strauss Waltzes with an overlong barge-pole ... I'm not sure why, but I now find them rather appealing. Perhaps it's going to Vienna earlier in the year that has made me start to appreciate them. They are certainly evocative of a very specific period of time and society ... Can anyone else admit to being partial to a good waltz? I might be pushing my luck but if anyone knows of a good compilation do let me know.

The spaceships moving to the tune of The Blue Danube in the film 2001 is highly evocative and I do have a soft spot for it.

I've never got on with Strauss' waltzes (apart from the example Martin gave of course) but then again I've never really been a fan of the 'dance' music of any era.

Yep, I admit it's a bit of an acquired taste!
