Anyone have any real staunch views/recommendations on makes and also deployment?
I've re-capped items in the past, with varying success. Sometimes the replacement brings an improvement - sometimes it doesn't.
Oscons. Some say they are really good for decoupling digital, but others seem to think not.
Thinking of replacing some 30 year old Elna Cerefines. Might try Stan Curtis's approach used in the Mission pre & power amp from the '80s where various makes of capacitor were used to help avoid a particular sonic signature resulting from using one particular type.

I've tried Os-Cons, Elna Cerafines, Black Gates and Nichicon MUSE. All good in different ways. For low voltage work I think Os-Cons are the best.

what are you recapping? for components out of the signal path (psu) i like nichicon fw golds, and panasonics, for in the signal path (eg output filter caps on a cd player) i like elna cerafines and the non polarised nichicon muse's which are bright green. bypass caps i usually use elna simlic 2 black gates are pretty unobtanium these days unfortunately

Dunno...
I do have some Os-Cons but I'm not sure how genuine they are, having got them off eBay. They look OK. HiFi Collective don't seem to stock them now. Farnell have some, but no Sanyo.
I'll cogitate a bit.

Used Mundorf aluminium and oil in my phonostage. For £15 they are very impressive!

I don't think Sanyo make Os-Cons any more the last time I researched. Are they Panasonic now?

I don't think Sanyo make Os-Cons any more the last time I researched. Are they Panasonic now? There's still Sanyo being advertised on eBay. But as you say, Sanyo stopped producing them some time ago. A Polish seller is selling them, as is a German one. Cannot imagine them being genuine. Farnell have Panasonic.

Yes, Os-Cons are made by Panasonic now. I wouldn't trust any advertised Sanyos to be original any more.

Oscon's fab caps, but use in the right locations, spot on for digital psu's, localized decoupling around clocks, PGFA's, fly-back converters, anywhere current hungry devices are located. Not around reg's though.
I have plenty of the Sanyo and Panasonic types of Oscon's each has its own place
The M cap's are nice, the smaller newer type such as BM80 used are respectable, just finished a an expensive pre amplifier up grade, used the Supreme's (silver, gold, oil) a nice balance of sound good tonal texture.
These are great for those not wishing to go to Duelund or the V-cap Cute (though the V-cap oil/telfon) are superb by-pass caps and x/over replacements.
Have been using Oscons for over twenty years and V-cap's for close to 12 in new designs and customer upgrades.
If you want to try some let me know I have a few thousand of the things!
