This Album Choice was selected by tim1750.
John Martyn - Solid Air (1973) I was tuned on to John Martyn's Solid Air back in the early eighties by a new friend who it turned out to have the same birthday as myself, I found the Album very intimate and enjoyable and the quality was good to my ears even if I was listening to it on a cheap Pioneer amp with a pair of Morten Short Carnivals , i'm sure most of you know of this CD and those who don't i hope you like it. My old friend also turned me on to the likes of Nick Drake and a few other good acoustic guitar players. Wiki:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_AirSpotify:

Whilst I am familiar with some of John Martyn's work, I don't know this album, so looking forward to giving it a listen, Tim.

I remember picking this up on 1st issue with Incredible String Band 'Hard Rope & Silken Twine' I thought it was an ok album at the time, Certainly different to the 'London Conversation' & 'Tumbler' id been used to listening to..

33 tracks? Thirty-bloody-three!!?? My bit of black plastic only has nine so I'm voting those nine a ten and not voting on the other twenty-four. This album was the centrepiece of a superb seventies triptych from J.M. as far as I'm concerned.

It comes across as a bit 'noodling with vocals' and I've found that with all of John Martyn's material. It's not as compelling as it should be, if that's not tortured logic. 5/10.

It's one of my desert island discs. Nuff said! I remember hearing 'May You Never' on the radio back in '74, and it stuck. I can't enough nice things about this album.

What he said, heard it at first release courtesy of my brother and it's a lifetime record for me. Can't see a vote option on Tapatalk, but 11/10 from me I don't need to hear it before voting either, I've lived with it for years. But only the 9 tracks , I'm firmly with Slinger here, it's a 9 track record, end of.

How have I not come across this album before, just listening to it now and it is excellent and will be an immediate purchase!
A very easy 10/10.

It's interesting how you get to know others' preferences in music by observing this forum over time. I've even learned more about my inclinations based on my own voting.

This along with Astral Weeks is one of those highly regarded albums that I just can't get into , I will of course give it another shot.

I try to get through it a couple of times every year, hoping that something sticks. It never has. Moondance is brilliant. So is Avalon Sunset. I've yet to be convinced with Astral Weeks.

Moondance is everything that Astral Weeks gets the credit for.

I love all three VM albums that are mentioned above and many, many more 😀
Astral Weeks would also get a 10 from me.

It's an amazing achievement for a 25 year old to produce a solo album of this maturity, I think. I love Danny Thompson's bass playing on the title track. There are some other performers on the album of note. Like most of Fairport Convention and the guy who played 'that saxophone' on the Pink Panther theme.
Parts of it sound a bit like Tim Buckley to me, especially where the vibraphone is featured.
It's probably one of those albums that everyone should own. 9/10.

Nope I just do not like this at all , its difficult to vote on such a famous album that lots of people find wonderful , I feel like I'm speaking up against the Emperor and his new suit . I'll give it 4/10 and I'm being extremely generous , I don't want to upset anybody but I think I probably already have

I wonder, for those of us who have voted it a 10, if it's one of those "I guess you had to be there" albums.
