Yes the Caiman a nice DAC for the money. The SEG is really brillant but you get very good sounds with the Caiman 2 I do not know what they go but think they keep there price well but maybe someone else cn comment

Sounds a good price for a Caiman 2, maybe very good.
SEG is better but at least double the money I believe

seg is a preamp/headphone/dac i think,i dont need a preamp,i just want it for, dac, headphone, for imac,i will be also using a arcam 290 cd player, plus biamped arcams,if some one thinks the price is ok i will buy it,i need a usb connection on the dac,its for a computer room, also is it much better than a bush 2 as the bush 2 seems to be a bit bright, soundstage is very wide, maybe to wide.

The Caiman-II is a very good DAC. The Caiman SEG is even better, you don't need to use it in preamp mode, it's switchable.

The Caiman-II is a great step-up because of the firmware that Stan developed for it. Mode 3 (4 LED flashes) is superb, developing real dimensional space around the performers. The SEG is a further development, optimising the circuit improvements made to the II over its lifetime.

? Mode 3 (4 LED flashes)what does this mean.Martin,as i said i have bush 2 with upgrade chip,I use speakers mainly, what h/phones would you partner the caiman 2 with i use cheap senns at moment and is there a big step up in sound quality over bush 2,if its a huge upgrade i will buy today, would you buy the caimon over bush if so why, also what would be a good choice of phones with the caiman in mind

Switchable modes are only available on later Caiman-II and SEG models.
It's a while since I used a Bushmaster but, as I said, the Caiman-II with latest firmware is superb.
For headphone advice, see what others have said in the Headphones board. I use Superlux HD668B, which are great for their low price.

No, the modes are for the DAC decoding & clocking methods. Preamp of the SEG can be disabled and has no bearing on the DAC.

The more I use the SEG the greater my respect for its abilities.

A product that makes you wonder why people pay more for other brand units.
