Hi all, Had the chance to try out a couple of preamps recently A modified Goldpoint passive and a Slagle Autoformer preamp The GP has solid silver wiring and Z-foil resistors. When I plugged it in it sounded incredibly detailed and open but quickly began to get fatiguing. It was almost too much at times. This could be a compatibility issue with the Jolida phono stage as it sounds to me to have gain overload resulting in distortion. The AVC is build into a perused box and is copper lined. The Slagle was just as clean sounding but is very musical. Delivers the music with a great sense of timing and pace. I am incredibly impressed with it and have bought it. I'll get some detailed pics up a bit later.

Is the Slagle just an auto transformer or is there an active buffer in there?

Thanks. You may need to watch your cable runs to minimise hum and noise pickup, although a transformer should be better than a passive volume control in this respect.

I had a pair of promethius mono tvc's in for repair for a customer of mine and they were very very good indeed.
As some of you guys know, I build custom passives as part of the product range I do, so I get to listen to loads of different attenuators, pots, tvcs ect, and I was very impressed with the tvc's. Once id fixed the bloody things :-). They are rather time consuming to build, and they do cost alot of money for decent tapped transformers, but are a very good option Cheers ant

It's fine in this case Ant, as you were asked a specific question about your product/s.
