What is the benefit of getting a turntable wall shelf?
I was thinking it might be an idea given we are going to have a toddler running around the house soon, in a bid to avoid accidents with the turntable.
Rega do one which obviously suits Rega turntables, and isn't too expensive either.

Mana rack sounded noticeably better than a Mana shelf. Just need room for another rack

Nice idea, but never going to happen in this house.
I am going to keep Leo away from the hifi as best as possible, but I was more thinking about inadvertent accidents.

A wall shelf can be better than a floor standing rack if you have wooden floorboards or an unstable floor. As you say, ideal for keeping out of toddler's way, too.

Nice bit of forward thinking, Paul. You'll need to do something to properly contain the cables too, because if it dangles and can be pulled it usually is.
What's the construction of your wall? Brick? Stud?

The volume control is a good item to be away from little fingers. We had visitors once who tried to make my system play. They fiddled with all sorts including volume which I found at about 3 o'clock. Would have given them a large surprise and damaged kit.
A classic I managed at age 2. Wandered up to a hanging thing, pulled and had boiling water land on me from the kettle on the other end.
Suggest you and the boss crawl around the floor and see what you can grab.
The boss's daughter was a climber from about the age of 2. Cupboards, curtains, kitchen and bedroom units. Sometimes with windows at the top.
Have fun !

I will be following this with interest as I need a shelf to keep my turntable out of the reach of little fingers.

Yes my sister was a climber, to the point she once tried to climb out of a 3rd floor window when we lived in a three-story house, suffice to say, Dad had to put in locks for the windows shortly thereafter. The dreaded volume control, that is something I will have to factor into my panic mode

May have to make the ultimate sacrifice and put in, dare I say it,
a switched socket
so everything is off

No no, never, ever, I won't be turning the hifi (other than the turntable) either, Leo can just get used to leaving it be.

Stud I believe and from what my brother-in-law tells me, Chris, it is very flimsy. The stud is more than likely built with 600mm centres. If the plasterboard is flimsy, then you could fit a mounting board to the stud, and then mount the shelf on the board. That way you'd get a solid shelf fixing. A little bit of decorating, and the mounting board will almost disappear.

Thinking about it, the wall I'd use is an outside wall, so I guess so I guess that might be better.

It depends on the way the internal wall is constructed. If it's dab and board it gets interesting.

Rega do one which obviously suits Rega turntables, and isn't too expensive either. Those Rega shelves are very good but have three cups welded to them for the feet to sit in. However i modified one once, got shut of the cups & refinished it. My old Pink Triangle deck sat on it nicely.

Educate them rather than trying to move everything out of reach. I did that with my son and there was never any problem with my (then) exposed valves.

When I get round to it I've got one of these to slap up on the wall, to replace the two microwave brackets and the marble tile.
