Mrs S has just asked to be trained. So she can play records while I'm in the UK. For a week.
Am I right in thinking most hi-fi geeks keep the great unwashed away from our record players?
Or is it a team sport at your gaff?
My deck is just a tad wobbly too. OK. Very wobbly

Team sport here. I think my daughter first used the TT supervised at age 12-ish.

I would love it if she showed the same interest as me

Im ok in that nobody else even gives the decks a second glance. The missus well and truly destroyed a nude dl103r I had about 10 years ago and has never used my manual decks since. She has used the JVC once or twice since I finished it though as its automatic. You would have to be a special kind of cretin to damage a cart with this deck

I am grateful that nobody else in my family has shown any interest, so I don't have to say no ...

I have no problem with my wife using the hifi (no record decks incolved) in fact I'd be delighted, but...
Ever since we moved from CD to home streaming, she's lost interest. Not really sure if that's because of the big jump in complexity** or some other reason.
** i.e. used to be:
- switch on amps and CD player, scan through CD's in cupboard, dig required CD and insert, press PLAY.
Now it's:
- switch on power amp and regenerator mains, switch on regenerator output, switch on DAC/PRE, set input to Streamer, switch on power amp, switch on Android tablet, start up control app, scroll through albums, select, press PLAY.
...it's a wonder anyone who's not an enthusiast copes with it..

The above is precisely why I dont really use the mac and beresford combo. Dont get me wrong, it sounds nice enough, but its a pain in the arse sometimes
Just flick through the black plastic, pick one, drop it on the deck and play
Simpler, easier, to me more satisfying than trawling through the endless reams of music on the mac trying to pick something. I don't like clicking a mouse Its just wrong......

I was quite happy with my missus using the downstairs system. It was only the rubbish that she played on it sometimes that concerned me.

Ruth likes melodic and hooky music without any trace of dissonance or harshness. I'm getting better at knowing what to play her now. Shostakovich and Yello are out!

Now trained and certified, with only one "fail" on her final exam (dropping the lp in its sleeve on the floor, after sanctimoniously saying how she was about to store it vertically rather than leave it flat on the unit to warp in the sun. This would have been an outright fail, but it was her Barbara Streisand lp she dropped)
She is aware of the price of that very fragile tip on the end of the arm...
Quite impressed in a way given the VERY bouncy suspension. Even Wonky bottled it

I didn’t want to break your expensive cartridge, and as a guest it was only right that you performed that duty.

Wifey never uses my turntable as she doesn't trust herself, but does use the other components. Probably won't let Leo use the turntable yet, maybe in a couple of years
