Hi, thanks for accepting my request to join this community.
Just to give a little about myself: I am a headphone enthusiast. I'd get into speakers if I could, but cannot at this time because of budget constraints and neighbors living close by.
My preferred types of headphones are the open back styles, but I do own the wonderful PSB -M4u2, and do like a few other closed back cans including the Audeze EL-8.
I currently own the Grado sr60i and Grado sr325e, both of which I adore. And do plan to purchase Grado RS2e, Audeze EL-8C and Sennheiser HD-650 before the end of the year.
I have I guess you could call strange tastes in music. I avoid basically anything with vocals, except for of course alot of American hits and classics from 80's, and oldies.
My tastes are newer age Jazz styles, none of the classics which I find incredibly tedious to sit through. As well as underground hip hop and a few select groups of Heavy Metal.
Somehow my favorite groups these days seem to almost exclusively come from Italy and France and Germany.
Groups like Zu, Mombu, Squartet, Morkobot, Mosca Violenta, Black Engine and the Jazz Pistols all seem to have put out some extremely unique sounds with atmosphere that is nearly palpable.
Zu - Carbon
Jazz Pistols - Three on the Floor (live)
Mombu - Niger
These are a few of my most highly recommended sounds.
Anyway thanks again for welcoming me to the forum.

Hi and welcome to The Audio Standard. Your description of your musical choices sounds interesting. We're currently asking members to participate in the next round of our Album Choices, so if you'd like to join in and share some discussion about an album of your choice, that would be great. PaulD is the moderator who organises that, so if you feel like joining in, you should chat to him. Here's a link to the most recent announcement about it. I don't use headphones anymore, but when I did, I had a pair of Grado 325s which I thought were superb. Welcome once again to TAS!

Hi Welcome to TAS. With you on vocals, my least favourite instrument. Some great music is ruined by the vocals.
Glad to say I can have speakers belting out so minimal headphone user.
That music is unknown to me. Will get sampling.
Just been listening to Bajofondo Tango Club Remixed. Think I now have everything they have done. Argentinian/Uruguayan.
Always expanding my musical area so will dive into yours

Welcome to TAS! Personally, I think human voice is a truly wonderful instrument, especially female. However, each to their own and vive la difference!

Hi and welcome to TAS!
I'm a big Grado fan having had SR-125, SR-325 and my current PS500 which I love. I tried the RS1 & RS2's but preferred the warmer sound of the PS range when I was upgrading a couple of years back.
As Chris mentioned, we run an Album Choice here where you get to share an album of your choice with the rest of the forum members, please do let me know if you're interested in joining up.
I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay here.

Nice one PaulD. I may be able to try ps500 tomorrow at a shop I'll be going to. But only listening by plugging into my smartphone. Do you think that could drive the ps500 well at all or needs more power? Wow, thanks guys. I really appreciate you guys joining in to say hello.
BTW, yes, I would love to join into the Album Choice concept, I will go looking for it on the forum. Seems like a great way for anyone to get some real attention paid to an album, especially if they believe it is great yet underrated.
BTW, as far as my comment about vocals goes, I do think some of humanities finest moments are recorded with musicians and vocalists together, and, I can name 200 great songs that include singing, but to me the gravity of the lyrics nowadays often pales incredibly next to the depths reached by the musicians, in certain types of less popular music styles, so I just stay away from it. But I know some great electronic music that wouldn't be as beautiful without the vocals. As well as in other styles as well.
I hope it is ok to leave links to songs. If not, after this post I'll not do it but I'd love to just give a few samples of a few tracks that I love, and which I think are capable of holding a listeners interest without vocals.
Jazz Pistols - Special Treatment
Chad Wackerman - A New Day Alan Holdsworth appears on entire album
Aluk Todolo - A Collaboration IV
The tone here...waaaat.
Oz Noy - Get Down
One of my favorite in-studio tapings
Mombu - Niger Just a baritone sax, bass guitar and drums. This entire album to me is something special and fun. Groups like Mombu are what I have been focusing on a lot lately.
Hey I envy you guys with the speaker set-ups. I recently heard a lot of songs from my playlists on nice speakers, and it was like I didn't even know my own songs. There was more information, more impact, more presence and weight and body to every element of any given song. And way more detail.
I started to realize that in order to get great detail and balanced sound while at the same time getting speaker-level low end, from headphones, you would need to spend 2,000 USD and up, on just the headphones themselves plus 3,000 and up on the amp/dac. Even then you wouldn't have quite the experience as from speakers imo.
I guess that is obvious to some people, if what I'm saying is accurate.
Great to be here.

TAS is and always will be as much about music as it is about gear, so links to tracks and albums are very much approved of! A lot of us like to do this via Spotify but YouTube is great too. As a Zappa fan, I recognise Chad Wackerman (best drummers name ever!) in your links there.

I currently use RS2e and I've still got my SR60i and SR80i. All are fab. My first pair of RS2e just weren't right (very edgy sounding) but they were exchanged without quibble for another pair that have been inviting me to listen more and more. I can thoroughly recommend them if you like the other Grados.
