Don't worry, you've been banging on about 1966 for well, 57 years now. If they win I've no doubt we'll hear about it for a while too, VIP guests or no.

Prince William has apologised for not attending but as President of the FA he should of course be there. I'm surprised he has missed the opportunity as he normally makes better decisions...

It still surprises me once in a while how bad things can get from one mishap.
Today I learned that this up-coming Thursday appointment with my endocrinologist which I've been waiting many months for has to be canceled and rescheduled. The next available appointment is in March.
A few weeks ago my boss wrote me a paycheck that actually bounced 3 days after I deposited it. It looks like he wrote two checks and handed me the wrong one. Because of that the next legit paycheck I deposited was locked off by the bank for a week.
Somewhere in that time I made a payment for new health insurance. So that payment (even after receiving a new health insurance card and ID) was reversed and coverage canceled. I've re-enrolled but the new insurance won't kick in until November. So now 2 appointments will be missed.
Both appointments would each cost just under $500 out of pocket.

I'm astonished you still have cheques (checks) out there for things like salary. It's all done by bank transfer here, with the money in our accounts within minutes.

USA boss: Hey Robert, fine job you're doing, fine job...listen I spilled some ketchup on your paycheck. I blame it on the sandwich so there won't be any pay this week. Any thoughts?
USA me: Ye, try mustard, it's less runny.
We both just laughed maniacally at that and hugged it out. Will have to leave my landlord a voice-mail this week about ketchup/mustard instead of paying rent.
Hopefully she'll find it all quite funny.

I just need to write this down, if only to stop my outbursts of somewhat hysterical laughter. Without going into too much detail, when Mum was admitted to hospital after a fall, at the end of January 2021, she was in a pretty poor state, but eventually she was well enough to be released and was put into a temporary care home whilst I balled the local authority red tape (the people themselves were very nice) via multiple meetings over Teams, and eventually, on 25th of May I managed to get her into the care home which was my actual preference. What I didn't realise, after cancelling every bloody thing I could think of and more, that was in mum's name, plus getting her house cleared, was that she was still being paid her attendance allowance. Fast forward to March of this year when I got a letter informing me that there was a query over said attendance allowance. Immediate reaction - what attendance allowance? I rang the number on the letter and (eventually) spoke to a very nice young lady who walked me through what was or was not happening. She went into great detail about mum's situation with me and - long story short - said not to worry, although she technically owed them a repayment (I got her to check " off the record" and she told me it was about eight grand) due to her state of mind at the time and her age (she'll be 100 next year) the powers that be were very VERY unlikely to pursue the repayment and it would most likely be written off, as that's what usually happened in " those situations". All was good. Until today, when I received a letter informing me that " We have looked again at a decision about Attendance Allowance. " We have looked again at the facts and evidence we used to make our decision. However, we have not changed our decision" So, I rang them and spoke to yet another nice lady (eventually) who, took just about every detail except my inside leg measurement, including what was my mum's phone number was, for the house she last lived in over two-and-a-half years ago, which was a part of their " current" information for her, Eventually, she asked what she could do to help me. I explained that it was all well and good sending me a letter telling me that the decision hadn't changed, but it would have been nice if, at some stage, somebody could have informed me what the actual decision was, which nobody had. She explained that all the letter meant was that the decision had not changed. I had visions of this one going round and round for ages, so I asked if it meant that she owed them money. " Oh no", says she, "t hat will come in a separate letter if that's the case". " So," I asked, half-jokingly, " this letter is simply to inform me that the decision which you have not informed me of has not changed, despite being reviewed?" When she answered, " Yes, that's right." I knew it was time to say my goodbyes and hang the phone up. So, an official letter, and the best part of two hours of my life, has left me none the wiser. I still don't know what their " decision" is, or whether they'll be trying to recover their money.

That sounds remarkably like my experience calling Enfield Borough Council on behalf of my mother countless times. Promised letters never arrive, including a potential humongous bill for carers which were cancelled a while ago, surprise letters telling me something I don't really understand, and the ring-around game where you get passed around but nobody bothers explaining anything so you are left having to start again each time.
Most recently, my application for lasting power of attorney was rejected after being with them for three months, on account of me signing my part in the wrong order. They sent me another single sheet to sign with today's date so that it is now in the right order. You couldn't make this stuff up.
It drains me, it really does.

It didn't help that my back is having one of its turns, and I feel like there's a knife buried between my shoulder blades. Mind you, I haven't actually looked, so there might well be. I had the same sort of problem when I took the LPA out for Mum. My next-door neighbour, who was one of my witnesses signed with her first initial rather than her full name (or the other way round, I can't remember now) and again, after months they sent it back for me to fill in all over again as corrections are not allowed.

My sympathy on the LPA, it's not as if the reasons for needing one make us happy.

The growing number of people using the phrase "...fed up OF," instead of being "fed up WITH," something.

Great quote from the EduGeek forum...
I completely agree. Our current annoyance is Airplay between iPads and our large 86" Iiyama classroom touch screens. One day, it works fine, the next we get freezes, connections cut etc. Annoying hardly covers it when we are running around rescuing lessons because another Airplay session has frozen.
And why? Why use an iPad and Airplay when the classroom has a perfectly good Windows PC connected via HDMI to the screen that can play the very same YouTube video glitch-free all day every day?

LOL you Apple haters crack me up - in our house we have one Apple iPhone, one iMac, two iPads and the 2011 Mac Mini I'm typing on. Guess what, they all behave immaculately and always have done. Must be rubbish. But keep on enjoying yourselves.
