Where do you stand on dogs in a hod, Chris? ;) Now, a dog in a hod would be novel, but if the dog has more than 2 legs, it should be bloody using them.

After the disappointment of being away during a Dead Can Dance concert when I REALLY wanted to see them, and another deferral of the never-seems-to-be-happening Vengerov concert, I pounced on a December concert by Hania Rani today only to find it's sold out. I can't seem to catch a concert break this year

Time to get petty.
I am quite sick to my stomach of streaming my sports events. I pay good money for the ESPN+ app to watch my hockey games and still usually have to bootleg them from crackstreams.
Lagging. Imagine watching a game of any kind and the screen pauses for 5 seconds every 10 seconds. All on the phone. And I pay good money for unlimited data on my phone (which actually is limited) because I don't have any cable or wifi at home.
My hockey team the Boston Bruins just won their 9th game in a row in spectacular fashion and I still havent actually seen the winning goal aside from some choppy footage even though I have ESPN+.
It's quite maddening watching any game like this.

I find I can get highlights of F1 and tennis matches on YouTube, no matter what the original source. It's very handy for me when I don't subscribe to any sports channels as not being worth it when those are the only two sports I watch.

My sports intake is only road cycling these days. The Tour de France is still wonderful with ITV4 but I hate the commentary for the Giro and Vuelta as done so very badly by Eurosport Sound off most of the time and an experience that is difficult to enjoy Would like to watch one day races and smaller stage races but Eurosport is about the only coverage available

Yup. Condensed games on YouTube are a life saver.
Same here. Some of the announcers only bother me if I'm listening to a game on the radio.
Watching is experiencing at the vey least the visual aspect and seeing the plays. On radio the entire experience is two guys talking about the game though luckily there actually is sound from microphones down on the field.

Pro cycling has a few different things going on The really good commentators tell you what, why and how
It is a team sport where there can only be one overall winner. Many different types of rider with strengths and weaknesses which usually stay the same but may change, especially when they change teams. An average rouleur can become a very important team rider when in a new team. Mr Average for their career, now a multiple stage winner.
The new, baffling phenomenon in the past couple of years are the new, young cyclists whose talent seems almost unlimited in different and sometimes conflicting areas. EG Sprinting and mountain climbing
Next year promises much from the new guys as well as those holding on to where they are
Remco Evenepoel, winner of the Vuelta and World Champs this year is only 22. Another Belgian Wout van Aert is in what used to be considered his prime years, 28. He could be the best cyclist in the world with the talent he has
There are others but you need good commentary to understand what is going on

It's the same for F1 and I wish I could amalgamate the best of the Sky and CH4 commentary teams. Martin Brundle and David Coulthard are the two best while some make a lot of noise but don't say very much.
When I have seen American commentary on F1, it's usually uninformed and virtually unlistenable. They can't even pronounce the drivers' names right.

My landlord, the local housing association, called me last week, and asked if they could pop round and fit a new kitchen door to suit fire regulations, in my maisonette. No problem says I, and the nice young lady gave me today's date, and told me I'd be first on the list, so any time after 08:00. At 13:25, the man with(out) the door rang my front doorbell, full of apologies, because he did someone else's door first, to fit in with that tenant's hospital appointment, and now he's been called away to replace a door that's been battered down by the police somewhere. Apparently that's " more important," or some such nonsense. So, after shifting stuff around and hauling stuff out and into different rooms, to give hime room to work, I've now got to put it all back and do it all again for first thing next Wednesday morning. Or ...I might leave what crap I can where it is for a week and work around it, because I really can't be doing with shifting it back, shifting it out again, and then shifting it back once more. My back and my knees are objecting already. It's not easy when you have to sometimes choose bertween using a walking stick and making two " journeys" or not using the stick and only making the move once, but more awkwardly and occasionally painfully. I was qute surprised, apparently, with all of the additional work, like fitting the fireproof stripping around the frame, paining the door (flame retardant paint? I don't know). etc. it's around a 5-hour job to hang the new door. Oh deep joy. I bought a nice new brass letterbox a while back, and then they turned up a few weeks later to replace that with a fireproof version. So that was £30+ up the Swannee. Fuck it, I'm insured, it would be less disruptive to simply let the place burn.

So this fire-proof door, you'll be keeping it closed all the time will you?

So this fire-proof door, you'll be keeping it closed all the time will you? Obviously. The only thing left to decide is whether I should be inside, or outside, the kitchen.

And a factor there would be where the fire is! Now on which side is there the most dodgy electrical equipment from eBay?!

Obviously. The only thing left to decide is whether I should be inside, or outside, the kitchen. No, look, you stand OUTSIDE the fire door and cook your dinner INSIDE the kitchen using implements through the letter box. That way, you stay safe.

Ah, well, you see, it depends which side of the door I'm standing, and which side of the door the fire starts on. I think the best bet is a flowchart, and I'm pretty sure they won't fit a letterbox to my kitchen door, fireproof or otherwise..
