On occasion I have had to do that, to either catch a train or tube as I often have long distances to travel home following a concert - that 5 minute saving can turn into 20/30 min when caught in the crowd exiting. My appreciation was making the effort to buy a ticket, travel a long way to get there and then sit and listen. I hear what you say, but some people often have no choice but to make a bolt for it as soon as practicable, without actually leaving whilst the performance is still going on - maybe even a toilet, as classical is often an older audience. Or course there is also the possibility they hated every second it. Life's too short Jules

I don't lie awake at night thinking about it Tim, but I think anyone can and should stay seated to applaud for even just a minute or so. It never takes long to get out of the Festival Hall or the Barbican - it's not exactly the O2 Arena!

Even back in the early 80's when I used to frequent the Festival Hall, my pal and I used to watch the 'young fogeys' attending, there for the need to be 'seen' rather than for the music on offer.

That's interesting Dave - I hadn't started going to the Festival Hall back then but nowadays I don't get the feeling of people there just to be seen - there's no great pretence at all, people just seem really into the music!

That's interesting. Who are these people? Most that I talk to have no interest in live music, especially classical. I've never heard of anyone wanting to 'be seen' there!

Saw that in the early 70s at festivals. Previously just music nerds and various nutters. Then a massive upswing in attendance and many not interested in music. Reading 72 ? was my last

That's interesting. Who are these people? Most that I talk to have no interest in live music as well, especially classical. I've never heard of anyone wanting to 'be seen' there! Interesting observation, very few people I speak would mention live music, let alone we are going to Glastonbury or the Hammy Odeon or what ever its called this week May get the occasional person who say's Jimmy hornswaggler and the bell end trimmers are playing the Full Moon in Budleigh Salterton this weekend care for a road trip? Music snobs (thankfully) seem to be in regression in the last decade or so (just for Slinger ) nothing worse than a pretentious classical muso droning on about how Wagner is misunderstood by the masses and that baroque is just so right for seasoned petrol-heads who need to be transported to that place which helps come to terms with their Nitrous Oxide sniffing addiction. Though in fairness wine connoisseurs, now there are individuals that could challenge Meridian and Harbeth's to a paint drying competition, boredom factor 13 Captain Arh yes the Ivy in London, now there's a serious palace of human wannabe's and some that have made it! One of the smallest, crush your body into to the tiniest space to get another three covers out of that 25mm area. WTF is the attraction? overpriced, very average food with a waiting staff that were trained at Roger Red Hat's school for decorum and deportment. Try it in the summer not uncommon to see fifteen people huddled around an ice cube for some comfort.

People who obviously don't ever read what they have written. I saw last night a post on FarceBook in support of Jason Rees Mogg. I popped a comment in the thread mentioning that the person he was talking about was actually named Jacob Rees Mogg, to which he replied, "yes, I know, it was autocorrect." which throws up (a common response when talking about Mr Rees Mogg I understand) two scenarios...
#1 - He wrote it and didn't look at it before he posted it. This was a two-line post by the way, not War &Peace. #2 - He wrote it, read it, and then couldn't be arsed to change it either before, or after, he posted it.
I'd have to say that #1 is by far the most likely, although I'm not discounting #2 entirely, because...
The same gentleman failed to respond to the second part of my correction wherein I had insisted that Jacob Rees Mogg was the sitting M.P. for Southern Caricature, leading me to believe that either he didn't even read to the end of my post, or that he really is dense enough to qualify for scenario #2.

People in shopping centres who just stop in the entrance to a shop. Ffs either continue on or go in. Or stop by the shop window not the sodding door

Are they the same ones who get off an escalator and then stop too?

The same ones who stand on the left of the London Tube escalators ...
... and one of my biggest pet hates - people who stand right in front of you on a tube platform with enough space for an army. Just what goes through their heads??

Yes. It has to be an empty escalator. they seem to lose the use of their legs for the short amount of time it takes to ascend or descend then regain the use once the escalator nears the end of its travel. You can still climb an escalator while its in motion Ferchristfeckingsake

The same ones who stand on the left of the London Tube escalators ... ... and one of my biggest pet hates - people who stand right in front of you on a tube platform with enough space for an army. Just what goes through their heads?? Selfishness. I have a theory that many many annoying enraging behaviours in people can really be distilled down to an under-developed awareness of how their behavior, or any given action or choice, effects their fellow man. Not picking someone up on time for an appointment because it took too long to get ready? That not an accident thats selfishness. It can be overcome. Hitting someone on the road because you were distracted while driving? Not accident. Selfishness. Standing at the bottom of an escalator like an idiot blocking everyones path as you take your time deciding where you'd like to go? In your own world unaware of your fellow man behind you. When others are aware and move aside immediately. It's selfishness and needs to be worked on. And selfishness is rampant.

Here's a great example of selfishness. Personally,I'd have stabbed his tyres.

That type of behaviour is just downright out of order, I agree with Martin, Tossers!

I don't see what the problem is. Those drivers were not breaking the law and if the drivers behind them were observing the correct safe stopping distances as set out in the Highway Code then...OK...I can't keep it up...they're tossers of the first water.
