You see this a lot at motorway services. The McDonalds is rammed while the nice noodle bar next door to it is empty. I know where I prefer to get my lunch.

Yeah, McDonald, Burger King and KFC, they are all the same, queues going out the door at services.
In town, the one that gets me is Nando's, they provided heated up Chicken with seasoning, nothing special, just flippin' Chicken. You have to serve yourself and it is always full of Chav's, why on earth is it so popular??

Actually I think Nando's are a cut above the others. The chicken is nice and the hot sauces are fab!
I can't speak for the Chavs, though...

I used to have Nandos quite often some years ago when they were still new on the scene but lost interest after getting too much dry, overcooked chicken and slow service. Maybe they've dealt with those issues now.

I don't mind dogs but some of the owners can be very annoying. I was walking home today and a guy was walking towards me with his dog, taking up the whole pavement. The dog was cute so I waited at the side of the pavement to let them pass. The dude didn't say 'thank you' or crack a smile, nothing. They say manners maketh the man ...

Another two pet hates julesd - a lack of manners is just dreadful,no excuse. Now,Dog owners..... Mrs Chris and I take looking after Titus quite seriously : he is 60 kg after all : and the amount of idiotic dog owners we both encounter is just ridiculous. Dogs not on leads, aggressive dogs, not one bit of attention paid etc etc
I've had several punch ups with dogs - last was two dogue de Bordeaux - and, believe me,they lost. Last in a long line of options mind.

Chris
Completely agree with you on manners, so many one lines emails "Hi how much is" Or "How long will it take to get this"
You give a an informed reply then silence, bloody rude, if they are not going to purchase or have bought else where no problem, just reply and say no thank you, doesn't cost any thing.
Large dogs require serious amounts of exercise, quality food, their own space plus a Dyson pet hair vac to cover all of the maltings!

The word "of" or more specifically, the misuse of said word e.g. "I shouldn't of done that" etc. People wouldn't say "I of a limited intellect" they would say "I have a limited intellect" so why on earth do they insist on thinking that, in certain circumstances entirely of their own choosing, "of" can replace "have" in a sentence? I don't want to make too big of a deal about it but for a tiny little word it really takes some unwarranted abuse. Did you see what I did there? Too big "of" a deal? Wrong! Why do people (the same people presumably) insist on putting an inappropriate and completely unnecessary "of" into sentences like “It is too nice of a day to stay inside the house.” No, it should be "It is too nice a day to stay inside the house.” There is no "of" in the bloody sentence!

Don't get me started, Paul. That is my number one most irritating incorrect construction in English. I feel duty bound to correct people. With dripping sarcasm

Well, my dreams of possible JBL ownership have gone out the window... I was chatting to our next door neighbour this morning and she asked if I was the one playing loud music at lunchtimes, so loud she couldn't hear her TV. I had to own up as I only get three hour long sessions in a week when I CAN play any music at any volume. I apologised and promised I'd not do this again. This with the geriatric Spendors and workroom IMF's too.....
So, The LS5/9's will definitely have to go (I've been keeping them for some sentimental reasons but they need more space then I can give them) and so shall the Harbeths too for similar reasons as they don't sound right in a small sitting room sadly. Shortly, I'll take some proper pics, get some boxes for the 5/9's and try to sell them on properly...

Damn, that's one area I don't suffer from ever since moving out of London.
Could you possibly establish when she's out so that you can have the odd blast?

This latest craze of starting a sentence with "so" - where did that come from?

From the bowels of hell. I can't stand it. I know it's one of Martin's pet hates too.

So...like...what does that even mean?
I'll add the unnecessary "even" to my list.

There's always the unnecessary segue "...anyway..."
The amusing sentence starter at work is "Basically..."

There's always the unnecessary segue "...anyway..." The amusing sentence starter at work is "Basically..." Surely that's "Well, basically..." or "So, basically..." Anyway, I digress...

This latest craze of starting a sentence with "so" - where did that come from? I could be wrong but it could stem from American narcissism. That "so" thing has been going on here for as long as I can remember. Here people do this thing where they fill the air with sound, after having just made their point, in order to not give up their turn to speak. "Ye, No, but ummm..." I hear it on the radio a lot as well. They've made a point, but dread having to listen lol, it's like a place holder while think of a way to keep talking. I've been to a classical music concert tonight at the Royal Festival Hall and the second the conductor put down his baton at the end, after he and the orchestra had given their all, a number of people bolted for the doors without applauding. Just to save 5 minutes. It really winds me up, I find it exceptionally rude. An orchestra plays for an audience, not themselves - show some goddamn appreciation!!
