This Album Choice was selected by Mr Whippy. The Blues Band: Official Blues Band Bootleg Album - 1980 In the late '70s there was an ITV program Good Afternoon, which was a magazine-type show with women presenters including Mavis Nicholson and Mary Parkinson, wife of Michael. I used to watch it after coming in from 6 - 2 shift. At some point it morphed into Afternoon Plus with Mavis Nicholson as main interviewer. She used to interview figures from various walks of life such as writers, politician, actors, fashion designers, clergy. I remember her interview with, a then, young, Sylvester Stallone. From the music world, one week she interviewed Paul Jones. He had recently formed his new band, The Blues Band, which was attracting some attention. Anyway, they played a couple of tracks from their album Official Blues Band Bootleg Album. It made an impression on me and I decided to keep an eye out for it. Some time later I got hold of it and was eager to hear it on my Thorens B 160/Hadcock 228 Export D-Type/Ortofon VMS 20E/Pioneer SA-508/Castle Richmond's. It did sound good. Rather good, in fact. Not a great album, but pretty good. The tracks featuring Dave Kelly stood out for me. The sound quality of the recording was better than expected; I used to use a couple of tracks when trying out mods. That's about it. I got the CD on a digipak from Repertoire a couple of years ago and it's ok. Originally, it was pressed by the band on WGLG with a run of 3000. Arista then released it, which is what I have. Some time later it was released on the budget Fame label, adding a picture cover: Recently available as a 180g item. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blues_BandHard to believe it's nearly 40 year old.

I rather enjoyed this album. The drummer was Hughie Flint, who played on the " Beano" album, along with a few other unknowns. They rode the British R&B (when R&B meant Rhythm & Blues) revival, along with Nine Below Zero. Good band. I give it 8/10

I really quite like this album, reminds me a lot of 'Blues 'N' Trouble' in its style, as Martin says above, it's a fun listen.
An easy 8/10 for me.

Reminds me off going to see bands play in pubs back in the early 80a. Not really my thing these days I can actually really enjoy the blues. I guess a 5 for me
