Not paid anything like this as I have mates in the trade and have always horse traded etc. To replace what I have retail would be in the £35K region...... Reminds me of the audiophile's prayer "Oh lord when I die, please don't let my wife sell my system for what I told her it cost"

Impossible for me to say. Would I like a Cessaro 5 way? Front ends would be easier I think. I wouldn't have made it with my bare hands, or sourced the drivers, several of which are not commercially available anymore, or refined and improved it over time - priceless that is.

Its been a nightmare for me & has made me feel sick the amount of money ive spend over 30 years with Hi-Fi. Out of everything i have ever bought & the systems i have put together, Quite recently a £300 File based system [If you like to call it a system] has wiped the floor with everything i have ever had.
So im not sure i can answer the Opening post.. At one point i stopped listening to music because i was constantly disappointed/Disheartened. Then i went thru a phase where i was listening to modern electronic based music in the hope that the type of music gave me what i was missing, that did not work until bingo Lossless Files, The embarrassing thing is my pig headedness said no to this all the time the subjects came up on forums & such.

Lack of Depth & Dynamics to the music.

Those are the exact areas which can kill musical enjoyment. No wonder you were depressed.

But didn't you miss whatever you liked in the 'old' music previously, even if the presentation wasn't quite what you wanted?
I'm lucky enough to be feeling pretty satisfied with my system at the moment - the dynamics and slam are the best I have had so far. All my rock / pop / classical vinyl is sounding equally good if the recording is up to it. Previously my classical vinyl was sounding superior.

What started if off was id bought a new laptop listening to something on You Tube i knew which sounded really good better id heard it before but was baffled how a sound card & a cheap pair of headphones could out weight my records & CD player by a large margin.. This stuck with me a long time. I knew something was wrong, i was getting results from electronic music via 12" single but i found my self getting tied down to that kind of music. Now im sorted im very happy, back to the Prog albums via FLAC.. Now a lot are getting Remasterd from the original Master Tapes it gets better..

No more than 3 to 4k, but to be honest I would rather go and see live music and buy more music than spend more on Hi-fi, or get on a plane to Nashville, my new favourite place in the world

Apart from the occasional local gig, a trip into London is a bit of an ordeal for us, especially midweek.

My systems were £600 and £450. Both produce sound worth well more than that, though like others I find it hard to price. Id like to hear a few more systems so I could compare.
