Just returned from Belgium, which is a beer lover's paradise.
Tried the trappists, lambics and some others. Decided that this dark nectar is probably the best beer I know, bar none. At 7% (the Blue is 9%), you sip it gently.
Quite unreal place. We used to tour Belgium selling our services and the hotel owners always but always insisted on introducing us to the delights of every beer they carried. In Belgium that is one or two. I think we enjoyed our time there.

I'll look out for that One of the great things about visiting my old mate Dave is the pub lunches we enjoy. For ages, they sold Doom Bar and it made a lovely smooth lunchtime pint. Last time I was there, it had been replaced with something else with a strange name - ugh! Seemed flat and, well, 'hoppy.' it would appear that some small breweries get it spot on and others don't - a bit like stereos really

Citra? Has it got lemons in it or something? No, it's just a name. Not too hoppy like some IPAs but with a really quality taste and after-taste.

Like trying out new ales and there are some fabulous micro-pubs popping up all over the place - but, you still can't beat a glass of Pilsner Urquell in Prague or Dreher in Budapest!

Much as I love sampling "craft" beers I always seem to wander back to Old Speckled, Old Crafty, and Old Golden Hen depending on the season.

I tried a few more Lambic and Trappist beers while in Brussels these last few days. This is my new favourite: Lindemans Faro, a lambic quite like Geueze but even more so. Delicious!

Seeing we got a Whiskey Galore going I thought I add one for beers I like a good Ale either something like Owd Roger or Chimay Red or White are particular favourites Brewed to a recipe believed to be over 500 years old, OWD RODGER is Marston's award winning 7.6% strong ale. Brewed using malted barley, English aroma hops and well water, Owd Rodger offers an explosion of rich fruit flavours with a dry bitter-sweet finish. Drinking to much of this turns me into Marvin the Paranoid Robot John, you have good taste. This is also one of my favourites. Bit of a sad tale; I could only buy this at my local off licence, however a Sainsburys local opened up half a mile away and within six months the off licence shut down, such a shame as it have been there for many many years. Where can I buy this from now ?

In my younger days my friends after awhile would stop me going to the Royal Standard in Beaconsfield to drink this great ale as I turn into Marvin the Paranoid Robot and get darkly existential
