I wonder why Martin only ever photographs the left hand side of an amplifier? Is the right hand side where you put your SpongeBob SquarePants sticker? Remembering this post of mine, I asked John to take a photo of Martin's new amp while he was over there today. Full width......

Thanks, Brian. You will see in the other thread that the EB Rockin'Rollers (I didn't know they were called that) scored very highly with us on SQ, and outstandingly on value for money. We found the Black Ravioli Mk.III to be the overall best for SQ. More later.

The Electricbeach supports offers outstanding value for money we all really liked what they did. I let Martin feedback on the supports and how it effected the SQ of his system I thought I given up on supports a few years back but now will have to save for a set of Black Ravioli

As described in the other equipment supports thread, we tried the Electric Beach Rockin'Rollers and Black Ravioli Mk. III Big Pads against my RDC 1 Cones. Remember that the RDCs have been my favourite supports for a few years now and are far better than no support at all. Well, the two arrivals comprehensively beat the RDCs by quite some margin. What we heard in both were an opening up of the soundstage in both width and depth; far more micro-detail; better scale without harshening of the peaks; better musical flow. The footers' effects were most pronounced under the Ayre player. However, we also heard a more diminished effect under the Belles power amp. The overall winner was the Black Ravioli. Prize for best value went to the Rockin'Rollers.

The Rockn'Rollers were the first we tried and a definite improvement to what Martin was using. Soundstage and detail retrieval a noticeable improvement. I think the next up was RDC 3 but they just made the treble all messy in his system. The Black Ravioli was next up. This immediately changed the presentation before it was a tad warm, with the supports that changed to a neutral presentation. Just placing them under Mike and I looked at each other did you just hear that as suddenly the sound improved. What became more noticeable was the micro detail. We then put some under the Belles. The effect was not as noticeable but for me offered more natural harmonic structure, giving instruments more timbre. The Black Ravioli had a similar positive effect under the NAD and Caiman

I think I'm going to have to try the BR under my Pass preamp.

We tried the RDC 4 between Rockin Rollers and Black Ravioli
I definitely thought the RDC 4s were very close to the Black Ravioli in sound quality. Ony my system at home I cannot tell them apart.
The sound quality from the Rockin Rollers was way better than their very low price might suggest. Insane value for money

Mike - sorry, I completely forgot to mention the RDC 4s, quite a lot better than the RDC 1s but with a slight sorbothane-like tendency towards smearing.
John - a good weight on some components is as surprising as footers in improvement. I still have Morrisons granite table mats and coasters on all my components.

The smearing in the RDC 4 put me off them I could not live with them

But thought I give it a try. At the moment I am using a old Laptop as a weight. But I like the idea of granite table mats

Gentleman, it is I, returning from the planes of forgotten password-dom.
Been following this thread with some interest Martin; Tony popped round to my flat in Surbiton some time ago and bought his cables along with him. To say they bettered what I had was an understatement; I've always planned to get a full Coherent loom since that day.
However, what interests me most here is your choice of amplifier change. I know you demoed the amp I'm currently using (Sanders Magtech) and felt it wasn't enough to dethrone the Crown, you said it was darker and slower (fair enough). I've got the amp upgrade itch and so would like to know more of your thoughts on the Belles once your one has had the chance to burn in?
