Has anybody heard these wee beasties in action? If so, what are your thoughts? I have read some good reviews of them, but I have no first hand experience.

I'd certainly like to hear them. I'm rather fond of Graham Slee products. My two phono stages sound superb.

You can sign up on Graham Slee website to a free loan scheme and try out any of his products. The matching pre still appears to be in development.

David,
I'd need to buy two.
I'm already signed up on the GSP forum, and I have a Reflex M with PSU1 and a Solo Ultra linear + PSU1.

MODERATION: Scott, are you having difficulty with the forum rule preventing you from direct selling in response to a post? You are not here as trade, there are no trade members.

Heard 'em at Cranage Hall, driving some LS3/5a speakers - rather good sounding stuff They didn't draw attention to themselves, allowing me to concentrate on what's important, ie. the content of the recording. I reckon they'd do a fantastic job aspirating my FH3/Frugal Tweeter combination The amplification setup was fronted by the aptly named Majestic DAC/preamp.

I heard them at Cranage too, and yes they did sound rather good with those Sterlings and the little subwoofer pillar stands despite the fact that there was a whacking great cabinet in between them.

Those subs were contributing very little in terms of LF amplitude to proceedings - used alone they were barely audible, yet when taken away from the overall sound their effect was readily apparent. Mr Slee's wealth of experience working in the radio broadcast industry was very definitely apparent with every product in the room. I have yet to hear a product from Graham Slee that didn't sound excellent. I thought his bog standard SL1210 sounded rather nice feeding the mystery preamp too. It was dragging one of those AT-150ANV carts around. I wandered in with an armful of vinyl, and rapidly received an invitation to play it - it's the first time I got to hear my clutch of new records before I got them home

Thanks guys. I may place an order soon....
I have read elsewhere that they are good. I assume that they were playing at a reasonable level with no signs of clipping?
I was just concerned that 25W is not enough for my speakers. Recommended power is 40W to 140W, and with a sensitivity of 87dB. I think the speakers used by Mr Slee were 85db, so should be ok.

That single comparison of sensitivity figures is not enough information - it's not as simple as that.

Yep, as Chris says - you need to consider the overall load presented by the speaker. How the speaker impedance varies with frequency is very important. 25wpc will be fine with some 87dB speakers but will not be enough with others.

You also need to consider the sound pressure level you want to achieve, distance from speaker to listener, and overhead - how compressed the recording isn't. My sums came in at 100w to be comfortable.

Where can I find that? Speakers are Cyrus CLS 70.

I've done a quick Google, and there doesn't seem to be detailed info out there. The nearest I have come is a quote from a review "The sensitivity may be lowish, at 85dB/W/m, but we managed decent levels from all the amplifiers we tried, and impedance is pretty standard, at a nominal 8 ohms." here www.rdhworld.myzen.co.uk/smfcu/index.php?topic=492.0My advice is to try before you buy or get an option on a full refund.

Buy direct of Slee (30 day return) or get some through his loan scheme. If Cyrus are related to Mission designs I would expect them to work but it depends on room size and how loud you play music. 25W may be a fairly conservative rating for these amps.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll ask Mr Slee if he does a 30 day return, but I am sure he will point me at the loan scheme.

Yep, as Chris says - you need to consider the overall load presented by the speaker. How the speaker impedance varies with frequency is very important. 25wpc will be fine with some 87dB speakers but will not be enough with others. I would argue that impedance curves are way more important than sensitivity. Amphion speakers for example are generally around 86db sensitivity, but don't dip much below 7 Ohms throughout the entire range, meaning that they don't suck current out of the lower powered amps and sound louder at low volumes than their sensitivity might suggest.
