A thought provoking interview with Charles Dutoit - www.telegraph.co.uk/music/classical-music/charles-dutoit-todays-young-musicians-have-no-culture/I get what he is saying about the YouTube generation having everything at their fingertips and not having the 'slow apprenticeship' that he would have enjoyed. The flip side is that a lot of classical musicians have used it effectively as a platform and had their talent noticed. Also some illuminating and rare comments about his ex, Martha Argerich - “Martha Argerich is a wonderful person and a fantastic artist, and I still love her, but it’s really so hard to live with her..."

I was very impressed with him when I saw him perform with the Montreal SO. His recordings of the Respighi Roman Trilogy and Saint-Saens 3rd are superb.
I think the 'slow apprenticeship' remark holds true in many areas. Certainly there's a different between an IT technician who knows only how to look for YouTube clips to help solve their problems, and those with a deeper understanding who can better apply what they find.
