Recently I purchased a Rock + arm + cartridge. Really looking forward to it.
The seller was also selling a Townshend Seismic Link Platform & Custom Cover he had made for the the Rock, which someone else purchased.
My parcel was delivered Wednesday, I think, and I collected it from my sister's, last night.
Thinking it weighed less than I imagined, I opened it up, to find not my expectant deck, but the Seismic Platform & Cover, which had sustained quite a bit of damage.
I contacted the seller and he asked for photos, which I sent. I said that the delivery details had been inadvertently exchanged with the other buyer.
He's told me to open a dispute case and is willing to give the cost of the deck. He's also contacted the other buyer, but has had no response from him.
I said I can wait a bit to see if the other buyer is going to contact him. I also asked if he could not be threatened with police action if the buyer is not willing to return the deck.
What do you think? First time anything has gone bad for me with eBay.

Sounds like an honest mistake until you mention the damage, which makes me wonder.
I'd take the money and write the deal off. What's his feedback like, what does he normally sell ? Perhaps a link for both items to peruse

The problem is with the buyer of the Seismic Platform. Basically, he's paid for and was expecting the platform, but opened his parcel to find a Rock + arm + cartridge - and doesn't appear to want to return it.

Up to the seller to sort it.
I wish him the best of luck with Ebay helping him
Hope it works out and you get your Rock

You are entitled to your money back you will need to open a dispute as incorrect and damaged item sent Not sure what that would come under. You will get your money back if you used paypal but it might take awhile to sort out The issue with the other buyer is nothing to do with you. He will have to go into dispute with that buyer as he will not return the goods but this has nothing to do with your case.

What I really want to know, just out of curiosity, is what action is available to the seller if the other buyer refuses to return the deck? What can eBay do? Can the police be involved?

I wish him the best of luck with Ebay helping him That's a joke, right? I have never yet found eBay to be supportive in any dispute I've opened. They hide behind weasel words and do nothing.

At least it's given me the chance to see a Seismic Sink.
I thought it used silicone like the through. Appears though to use a bicycle inner tube type of operation. There's a bicycle pump with it. Thought Max might have come up with something more... alternative.

This is perfectly straightforward. Open dispute, "Item not as described". It's up to the seller to sort out his mistake. Whether or not the item you received is damaged is irrelevant here.
No need for all the wailing, gnashing of teeth and poor advice.

Do you think we haven't followed that 'straightforward' process, then?

Do you think we haven't followed that 'straightforward' process, then? Too much unnecessary obfuscation going on imho.

Too much unnecessary obfuscation going on imho. By whom? You clearly haven't opened a dispute, had it ignored completely by the seller, made a claim on eBay and had them tell you that there is no proof of delivery and there is nothing further they can do. When questioned, they blithely tell you that you cannot question the issue any further. Their business practices are completely in favour of the traders. In comparison, Amazon are a paragon of good customer service.

Moving on, I've been trading on ebay and using Paypal for years now and have a 100% rating on over 1000 transactions. I've had my fair share of disputes, all resolved in my favour by patiently going through the proper procedures rather than getting upset.

...er, 'no proof of delivery' is a slam-dunk refund. I think you're getting a bit confused. There is no confusion here at all. The purchase was coming from the US and no proof of delivery was not accepted. I have around 330 transactions and a 100% rating, too. I also have all the e-mails back and forth with eBay detailing the whole sorry saga. I continue to use eBay as they are essential to the kind of components I buy, but my respect for them is very low compared with Amazon. The bigger problem here is that you have made only a few posts since joining and are already displaying the kind of arrogance, calling a member's statements into question, that gets right under my skin. Kindly reel it in a little until you get to know members and they get to know you.

Open a dispute with ebay their pretty good at sorting things out but you must be patient as they don't get in any hurry.
Good luck mate

There is a new TV series following police pursuing Ebay scammers. I suggest contacting the relevant team if you are conned in future and Ebay refuse to play ball. Police are taking this seriously if Ebay aren't. As for this instance the seller is an idiot. How do you confuse a TT and seismic sink with two packages? Best thing with hi-fi is to do collection only and limit to travelable distances especially turntables).
