I rather like the interior, some comments have been "that's a big iPad", "where are the knobs" (I felt like replying, "stood next to me', but resisted), "it feels very nice, and airy", and "very comfortable seats". IMO it is what I would call functional for a 21st Century car, time to move on from knobs and twiddly bits, completely irrelevant unless you suffer with technophobia! More to the point it drives lovely and does what it says on the tin. Hi Adrian, my Mrs went to visit some friends last week who bought a Tesla recently but apparently their garage is very tight and so they use the app which tells the car to self park in the garage with them standing outside. Very cool tech ... I want to go with her next time she visits and check out the car! It's quite a big car and imagine it's very comfortable for motorway journeys but how does it handle; is it quite agile and good round corners? Hi Jules, The model 3 is not that big, a med-large saloon imo, 15’ 5” long(4696mm), 6’ 10” door mirrors tip to tip(2088mm), it goes through my single roll door with 1” each side to the wing mirrors open. It is very easy to drive, and agile not what you’d expect, the handling matches the performance which is 911 territory but it is not harsh, although I would avoid the 20” wheels and running on expensive stiff rubber bands(completely unnecessary). The auto-park comes with the enhanced autopilot (£3400) upgrade, ours does not have it, personally the standard autopilot is quite enough imo. If you get one and the car does not have it you can always buy it through the Tesla app and download it, or even upgrade to full autonomous driving. It is one of the most impressive cars I have owned in 46 years, and as I was a petrolhead I have had over 35 in that time, from classic British sports cars, to German and Italian exotica, and wasted a load of dosh in that time. I would just go and test drive one, I think you’ll be surprised. Cheers Adrian By the way we’ve done just over 1200 miles now, spent £15 on electricity, half at a supercharger and half at home, all the rest was free as we charged it from spare off our solar panels. So it’s 1.25p a mile, or around an equivalent 50p a gallon at 40mpg. But even if it was at 0.25p per kw that would be 6.25p/mile, or about £2.50 a gallon equivalent.

Thanks Adrian, it really does sound most impressive. I think a Tesla will likely be top of our list when it comes time to move to electric - I'd be very surprised if our Mazda isn't our final petrol car but it's only done 30k now so still got some time with it before moving on.

I think you would be surprised how much you would currently get for your Mazda, 2nd hand car prices are through the roof, I know of some who have got back what they paid and a few more. I brought a very low mileage Tesla and was lucky and saved about 10k, they are still out there if you look around. Cheers

Cleaning the inside of a car is much more hard work than doing the outside. Today I took to vacuuming and polishing up the dashboard and upholstery. Amazing how dusty the back got considering that no-one ever sits there as it's sized only for small children. All those nooks and crannies almost did my back in, such are the angles I needed to get to them all. Still, it's done now and has 'new car smell' again.

Say, what?

I was wondering why my iAT was high (over 50C) on recent journeys and went to top up the intercooler. When I looked down there was a jet of coolant water streaming from the intercooler radiator It looks like a stone puncture and I guess I’ll be needing a new radiator. I hope it doesn't have to ship from Australia where the Harrop supercharger comes from.

There's a new more efficient version of Radweld that could be of use Doesn't clog things up like Radweld used to

If it was a dribble, I'd consider it Mike. However, this was more like a jet. Any kind of Radweld isn't going to close that up, I'm afraid, and I wouldn't trust it. I'm really hoping that a pattern matching radiator can be found so that a Harrop one doesn't need to be ordered. It would happen in summer, of course, when an intercooler is most needed

Radiators are my least favorite car part for reasons that, sadly, you just discovered... hope your repair is expeditious and without great cost.

Thanks, Nick. I'll probably hear from Abbey on Monday.

Replacement radiator from Harrop £980 Now ordered. Meanwhile, I'll try repairing the existing one with metal epoxy putty.

Meanwhile, I'll try repairing the existing one with metal epoxy putty. It worked! I marked the area of the leak with a white pen, then allowed the whole thing to dry. Last night I pressed some of the putty into the intercooler radiator matrix in the area of the leak. Later, I filled the system with anti-freeze. This morning, it was still dry. I drove to work and the iAT (Intake Air Temperature) was +15C on the motorway and +20C in town. Perfect! I shall keep an eye on it driving home and see how it fares. I doubt I have saved the cost of a replacement, but at least it's deferred for the moment.

For those contemplating an EV or even a Tesla, and wondering if it would be worthwhile, I have been keeping some running stats on how our Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor is performing from a full cost point of view, the figures show total Electric costs and also compare what the journeys would have been averaging 40mpg and what the saving has been. We are fortunate and for 50% of the mileage so far have charged it from our Solar panels, but it you replace the zero cost for this with 7p/Kwh from say OctopusGo or similar, charging at night then you can get what you might expect if you do not have solar.

I saw today that BMW can offer to turn on things like heated seats for a monthly fee.
"BMW has sparked debate after offering an online subscription to turn on heated front seats in its cars in the UK for £15 per month.
A monthly heated steering wheel subscription costs £10.
Subscriptions have been available for features on BMW cars for some time in the UK, but the heated seat offer started this month.
The company says customers can enable all hardware features for a one-time payment if they prefer."

That's even more cynical than offering slower CPUs with some cores switched off.

You might as well rent the car when you need it!

If I need a car for an extended trip I will probably rent something small and cheap, unless I need a van of course - which my lovely Saab 9000 often served as

Don't rent a base Seat Ibiza (our rental car). The poor thing means well but is absolutely gutless, barely pulling away in 2nd around roundabouts. I haven't even bothered with 6th gear on the Autopistas.
