It is a proper 'bargain' - hope you like it. I was so disappointed with my last batch of Aberlour - great to find something much cheaper in a similar style.

Does anyone enjoy Armagnac?
I don't think I have had any for 20 years or so! Think I'll rectify that soon ...

I used to enjoy Armagnac too, Jules, and likewise, it's been a long time since I drank any. Brandy (and its variations) was always my spirit of choice when I was drinking. I used to enjoy Calvados too.

Yes it's many years since I had a bottle of Calvados in the house - I might have to try that again as well!

A good Armagnac makes a nice change.

Sadly they couldn't fulfil my order! Very frustrating as it was about 15 quid cheaper than elsewhere ...

It might be worthwhile taking a look at these people, Jules. Delivery £7.95 I believe, and they take PayPal.

I had a very pleasant surprise when I got home yesterday - Waitrose came through this time with my order of the Tariquet XO. www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/armagnac-xo-ch-du-tariquet/063123-32067-32068Trust me, this is an absolute steal at £33. In terms of sheer quality it blows away just about every whisky I can remember trying under 50 quid or so. Utterly delicious baked apple, raisin and caramel flavours, it is complex yet so smoothly blended; I just couldn't resist having a second pour.

I'd love to try it but at my current sip rate my stock of whisky is going to last for years!

LIdl have got quite a good reputation for their booze. Too often people confuse "inexpensive" with "cheap and nasty."

Too often people confuse "inexpensive" with "cheap and nasty." That would never happen with hi-fi

I was recently gifted a bottle of proper no 12; it’s as you would expect, very basic and wood heavy. I certainly wouldn’t pay for it.
I also dislike the blatant lies on the marketing blurb, where they mention Conor and his master distiller working together. He has no master distiller as it’s repackaged Bushmills which he bought in bulk and stuck his own label on.

Does whisky go off over time ?
I had a few opened and half-finished bottles, including my erstwhile favourite Laphroaig. These had sat on my shelf for about 20 years. I have been unable to drink any these for a while due health problems, but when I finally tasted them recently none of them seemed to be quite the same as I remember them.
This may of course be due to me not properly remembering the tastes (if one can remember a taste).
