My first introduction to music was at 16 when I worked in the record department of W H Smith in Windsor. Despite not realising it at the time, I actually learned quite a lot about groups who still seem very influential. Records I sold a lot of were Fleetwood Mac - Rumours, Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here, Yes - Fragile, Queen - A Night at the Opera. All of these are now ageing me!
My very modest system comprises a Cambridge CD player, Sony amplifier and Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 speakers.
Recently I went to a Goldfrapp concert. It was quite the best concert I have been to for years. She was amazing. Generally my tastes in music are fairly eclectic. I have two concerts booked, courtesy of Martin: Prom 2 (Liszt, Mussorgsky & Elgar) and Peter Gabriel, both very different but both should be fun. I can always rely on Martin to keep me educated in the music world!

Yes and wasn't it wonderful music! I can still vividly recall a Genesis concert in 1978, the first one I ever went to, and I have been a fan of them ever since. My introduction to music also came with a little PYE transistor radio balanced on my shoulder and being dragged to Windsor Great Park for a picnic and trying to listen to Radio 1's top forty between 5-7pm. I think Terry Jacks, Seasons in the Sun was one of the number ones. Now the idea of a picnic in Windsor Great Park sounds idyllic. But at 15 not so cool!

I made a crystal radio from a crystal diode, variable capacitor, toilet roll, enamelled copper wire and a long aerial strung outside so that I could listen to Radio Caroline and Radio Luxembourg. It wasn't portable.

Hi Ruth, Sorry - rude of me not to have said hello yet. I don't suppose I'd have lasted long working in a record shop as a teenager - I wouldn't have wasted my time with the customers!
