Hello to everyone from a sun-drenched Greece!
It's 37c each day here at the moment. Not even any cool air in the evening - thank god for air-conditioning or sleep would be very difficult...
On Saturday night we met up with some friends who were holidaying at a nearby resort. I ended up slightly the worse for wear - the meal was accompanied by some lovely Greek Viognier wine and then for some reason I decided they should be introduced to tsipouro which is like a stronger and purer version of ouzo, and quite deadly! I've been on the non-alcoholic beer since..
Yesterday we had our first swim. The beach is 10 mins drive from my in-law's house and it's beautiful. Sandy beach, warm and clean water. On weekdays it's very quiet and peaceful indeed. I'm aiming to go swimming each day now and get into better shape. LOL.

Can you see any life boats in the distance with orange coloured vests coming from the Southerly direction?

We used to holiday on the Greek island every single year for 18 years, i loved it. The last time we went the place was like it was taken over by Eastern Europeans making it quite clear they did not want the English & Germans in the same resorts as them. Making my Wife holiday a complete nightmare, she was in tears most nights with the bully tactics going on. We were transferred to a different resort to find the exact same thing happening there. We did eventually demand to go home early never to return.

We've only been to islands two or three times as part of a holiday visiting the family on the mainland... Which island did you go to?

It's been up near 30C here in Warsaw, Jules, and that's way too hot for me. Luckily, we're back down to around 24C now.
Not ouzo, but we've been sampling the Polish vodkas somewhat and they have been rather wonderful.
Back home tomorrow.

It did not bother e at first until i heard them on several occasions.

I know someone who lives close to the sea in Greece and enjoyed walking along the beech. But since bodies started washing up along the coastline where he lives he has not been going down to the beech because of the distressing scenes at times.

I was told today that Germany are going to start sending back immigrants who have arrived through Greece. It's going to be many years before this country gets back on its feet...

Crete is loverly, I like Agios Nikolaos, watching all the posh liners coming in for stop off. I did some research & found out that the majority of cheap priced places were booked out by Eastern Europens. I was told why
I was thinking it may be best to book a shorter stay, putting the saved money into an expensive hotel where there is a slim chance of these people being there because of cost. Its an idea similar to drinking in an expensive bar back home because you know piss heads wont come near being so expensive.

That sounds like a good plan to me... Yesterday we visited my favourite cafe bar for coffee and ice-cream with the best view around... They have some very cool & eclectic radio stations in Greece and was rather strange but fun to be listening to Morrissey's 'First of the gang to die'!!

Some really beautiful shots there, Jules. They give a great feel for the location.

Yes, great shots. There must be a story behind each one. Go on and let us in on them!?

Here are some highlights of our wonderful 3 night stay in Pelion. Such a dramatic part of Greece - within minutes you can be on an unspoilt beach and then lunching in a sleepy village perched high in the mountains. Nice. I could happily set to work on that.

I completely and utterly fell in love with that house!
The detailing and quality was just fantastic. Positioned just off the village square opposite a church... Dread to think what the asking price might be. In spite of this recession, Pelion property prices are high for these grand properties...

It's my trusty old Nikon D50 with Tamron 17-50 2.8...
Will probably give it to my son and get a nice compact for holidays.
