I decided some time ago that i need to put all this Hi-Fi malarky to rest & move on to other more important things in life. Got shut of everything. left myself with a clean slate! Im presently re modelling the living room with an all new Modern Simplistic clean lines furniture & im looking for a new cheap amplifier to go with some cheap used but mint 1990's KEF 'Cresta' speakers i picked up.. Ive no real intentions in sitting down seriously listening to music like a used to do, not even gonna bother placing the speaker in a Hi-Fi bible fashion, each side of the TV will do. so a nice Budget amp then about a couple hundred quid.. Might be a bit late to be asking as i plan going up Sheffield tomorrow after work to buy.. Anyone had any experience with the Denon 'PM-720AE' or even the cheaper 'PM-520AE' also the Onkyo 'A-9030' or even the cheaper 'A-9010' www.denon.co.uk/uk/product/hifi/amplifier/pma720aewww.eu.onkyo.com/en/products/a-9030-85849.htmlThe Onkyo are the most tempting as ive had my eye on the Onkyo 'C-N7050' Which the wife can use as a CD player i can use as a lossless file player. www.eu.onkyo.com/en/products/c-n7050-119221.html

I suspect that the build quality of both of these devices will be well below your standard of acceptability, me ol' fruit.

I guess they will about the same quality so I just go for the one that you think will serve you best. As you say its not about performance for you anymore

Sounds like a good move to me. It was pretty clear from your previous posts that you were obsessing way too much (even for this crazy hobby) and it was driving you crazy and you were not enjoying the music. Good luck - I hope it works out for you.

If it were me, I'd get a small class D amp, like the Amptastic Mini-1. Small and cute and will sound much better and cost less than a cheap Denon or whatever.

Nice. Looks like a similar mech design to the SCD-1.

The Denon Amplifier arrived today, I was quite taken back how heavy it is, looks nice too apart from the slightly shiny Brushed anodised finish of the fascia, however the Sony CDP has the same finish.. Be ok when its in the TV unit out the way. Sadly the new Chord Company Speaker cables & Interconnects leads have not arrived as yet.
