I hate levelling things.
It's a fiddly enough job to do when all is going well. You just can't beat working from above but how many platforms or footers allow you to do that?
So, I set about finding a way to do it.
This is a really easy job - I've just made one in about 20 minutes.
Take an Ikea APTITLIG butchers block. £15 - get 'em here
Drill 3 pilot holes all the way through. Turn the board so the side without the juice groove is uppermost. This is the TOP of your platform. Take a flat wood drill bit and shave off about 2mm using the pilot hole as the centre.
Again, using the pilot holes as the centres, drill a 10mm hole. Start on the BOTTOM of the board and just drill in a few mm. Turn the board over and drill right through - the shallow hole you just drilled on the underside was so that the bamboo doesn't tear as the drill comes through. Take an 8mm threaded insert with a hex top and screw it into the hole with an allen key. £5 for 25 - get 'em here
Wind it all the way in. The top will be flush.
Take an M8 35 or 40mm pointed grub screw with a hex slot - now that's an audiophile spike if ever I've seen one! £3 for ten - get 'em here
Wind some PTFE tape around the top half of the threads. This takes all slack out of the threaded connection. You'll need more that you might think.
Wind it all the way in so it's flush with the top. Flip it over and this is what it looks like.
Repeat for the other two holes.
Done!
Now, place the board on your rack and level it in comfort from above with an allen key.
