Hi, I need to re-valve my Icon Audio stereo 60.1 and like the sound of 6550 but not heard of Harma sold by Watford Valves can anyone give me some info ie; quality ,sound, and long life /or breakdown issues. I've had Tung Sols in it before and quite like them because I found them musical with good bottom end but fancy a change any info would be a big help.
Thanks in advance
Tim

Another vote here for TAD - they have significantly outperformed several vintage tubes in my set up ...

^ I put Jules onto TAD valves. Being a vintage NOS tube freak, he was dubious to say the least. He was happy reeling off all the black and grey plates, long and short. Best years for each. etc etc. But credit due, he tried some TAD valves despite the idiocy of the suggestion. And they beat his beloved NOS devices. Just go with TAD, you know (or will know) that it makes sense.

Thank you for your kindness I will let you know what I end up going for.
I'm thinking of running a new thread to see what people think of the Tungsol 6550 to the TAD 6550 and why.
In fact i'll do that now

Great stuff Tim. Look forward to hearing what you think of them. If you love them it was my recommendation, if you don't you can blame Jerry ...

Right to bring you all up to speed I bought the TAD 6550 and received a mis-matched set (physically) anyway I tried them in the amp and decided that the Tung-sol's sounded a lot better so when I sent the mis-matched set back I got them to send me the Tung -Sol's instead ,their in the amp now and just seem to sound right, it just goes to show the old adage if it not broke don't fix it. Lesson learned Happy listening Tim

Nice one, Tim. There is no universal recommendation for valves as it really depends on the circuit and operating parameters.

Sounds like poor service from the supplier. Just glad you ended up with something you like.
