I was first introduced to this artist by my Dad, who didn't like the CD he'd bought so offered it to me. I thought what the hell and tried it out, and have loved it ever since. Considered a soul artist, I would say Mighty Sam McClain is more Soul Blues as there is certainly a blues tone to this and his other solo albums. I suspect that he has a bit of a Marmite voice as this is what Dad really didn't like, whereas I am quite a fan. Let's see what you guys make of it Spotify: Wiki:There doesn't appear to be a Wiki page for this specific album, so I thought I'd share the artist's page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mighty_Sam_McClain

Looking forward to this!
Heard a couple of tracks at the recent Stylus vinyl / hifi event in Manchester and was very impressed...

I was with Jules when he first heard this too. I had never heard it either but have played it several times since. My first reaction was that I thought is sounded a little like Bobby Bland singing with Albert King's guitar playing. Now there's nothing wrong with that!

I am liking this some good blues based guitar playing and great vocals. I have a few more listens before giving it a mark I certainly get the Bobby Bland comparsion.

An easy 8 from me.
Nothing new in the music but the quality of songs and production is excellent. I especially liked the guitar playing.
Shame the vinyl is so damn expensive!!

I am also going for a 8. It might go up to a 9 over time.

I liked it when I heard it at Paul's. I still like it! I didn't realise he'd died in 2015. There's not only good guitar playing but a nice sounding Hammond, too.
An easy 8/10 for me, too.

This is sort of blues / soul /gospel hybrid is not my bag but this is well above average. The backing instrumentation and arrangements are very good on this. Worth a 7/10.

Glad you all appear to be liking it, I'm currently running through his back catalogue and I'm super impressed. Not such a fan of his later duo albums though.

Shame the vinyl is so damn expensive!! £34.99 is dear but not ridiculous for the AP version. snvinyl.co.uk/epages/eshop943300.mobile/?ObjectPath=/Shops/eshop943300/Products/"AAPB%201015"&ClassicView=1 I paid more than that from Amazon USA and then got hit for £18 taxes 😑

Track 7 is completely and utterly up my street - I love this kind of slow blues. Whatever score I give the album, it gets at least one extra point for this track!
