And it was very nice to meet Chris too! The show had a lovely atmosphere and was busy on both days - heck there were even quite a few ladies there too! The Reed arm certainly brought admiring glances and one or two people who had never heard mono played properly with a true mono cartridge were shocked (in a good way) by the Miyajima Mono ZeroB that I had on the old TD-124. I'll definitely be doing the North West Audio Show again next year, perhaps with a dedicated room in which I can preach about the analogue delights of Miyajima to more than one person at a time! I was pleased to finally meet and spend a little time with Hugo, whose Ammonite Audio company is handling some very nice stuff. Reed 3P Tonearm

It was good to meet you too, Hugo. I was really pleased to hear what a dedicated mono setup can do. There was a depth and vitality that playing the same record with a stereo cart does not get close to.

So ChrisB what kit impressed you the most?? I wasn't really bowled over by the sound of anything Jules. I had some really interesting conversations with some great folks though, and that's my main motivation for going to shows nowadays. There were a few things that I want to find out a little more about (more on that in due course, I hope). I suppose one highlight was getting an opportunity to properly hear a system with a modern Class A Accuphase power amp. This was a first for me, as the last time I had the chance, the speakers weren't really a good match at all. Accuphase C-2120 preamplifier, A-47 power amp, DP-560 SACD player

I think so. For one or two, I didn't hang around for long though! The odd one sounded awful, some were too full and weren't showing anything I hadn't seen before. I was in your room for about 15 or 20 minutes but didn't really listen to the system at all because I was talking to Chris and then went off to introduce him to Hugo. I intended to go back but never made it.

Very beautiful speakers. How can you describe the sound? Regarding tweeters in our JBL HP-8B the titanium really sounds well and airy. So long time I believed only soft dome tweeters but some aluminium or titanium can be also good without fatiguing Interesting to see the Amphion Krypton speakers in their latest incarnation. I owned a pair of the originals from new (2004-2008) when they were £8K a pair. I wonder how much they cost for the MKIII? I don't particularly like the look of the latest black plastic "wave guide" for the tweeter. The original utilised a 'carved from solid wood' and looked so much better, but was probably so much more expensive to produce. They have also replaced the original SEAS 8" mid range drivers. The originals weighed in at 85Kg due to having a granite slab, balancing the side firing 12" Nomex Kevlar bass driver and the birch veneer finish was flawless.
