It was great to meet and natter with DavidF in the Auden Distribution room. Here are the Amphion Krypton 3 speakers that he mentioned. The Pink Panther Theme souned great but the folks in the Elac room next door were wishing that the new room divider had been a little more substantial!

Interesting to see the Amphion Krypton speakers in their latest incarnation. I owned a pair of the originals from new (2004-2008) when they were £8K a pair. I wonder how much they cost for the MKIII? I don't particularly like the look of the latest black plastic "wave guide" for the tweeter. The original utilised a 'carved from solid wood' and looked so much better, but was probably so much more expensive to produce. They have also replaced the original SEAS 8" mid range drivers. The originals weighed in at 85Kg due to having a granite slab, balancing the side firing 12" Nomex Kevlar bass driver and the birch veneer finish was flawless.

Soundkaos Libération open baffles I listened to a system containing these speakers last year ( thread here) and to say I was disappointed by what I heard is a massive understatement. I walked into this room yesterday and found I was the only person there (it was quite early) so I sat down to hear the track that was playing. It was 'Lilac Wine' from Jeff Buckley's Grace album. It sounded OK but it's hardly the most demanding of tracks, so I asked if they could play 'Lover, You Should Have Come Over' from the same album. It starts off quietly and with a great atmosphere but builds up to something a lot busier and dynamic. I really wanted to like these speakers and things started out well but it soon fell apart when the track became more complex. What an awful mess! It actually sounded like two different systems playing the same track. The soundstage fell to pieces and the drums began to sound like someone was hitting cardboard boxes. Small ones. Just terrible. I stayed to the end of the track, thanked the exhibitors and left, thinking how apt the name was - Soundkaos indeed.

Yes, the look is much better with the wooden faceplate Steve. Why did you sell them - chiropractor bills?

Yes, the look is much better with the wooden faceplate Steve. Why did you sell them - chiropractor bills? They were a "transitional" speaker for me Chris. I had owned a pair of TDL Monitors for 16 years and when I came to revamp my 80's system in 2003, I liked a smaller pair of Amphions that I borrowed from a dealer. I listened to a pair of the Kryptons and eventually bought them, although I was never really satisfied with them as a "forever" speaker. They were displaced by Avalon Indras in 2008.

Iota-Audio-Design Some really interesting thinking for a different approach to turntable design here. There are several models, each with a slightly different approach. I linked to their website here on TAS when I read about the gear back around this time last year. I had a good natter with Nigel, who used to own Chantry Audio, my local hifi shop when I lived in Nottinghamshire in the nineties and early zeros and Mark. Jot-SP turntable with spindle platter (there's a cork mat and weight that sit on top of this) and Satori tonearm. QT PH3 turntable and balanced phono stage, pre-amp and 50 watt mono power amps.
