ELP never really hit the spot for me. I would never describe anything they did as fantastic - I recognise their skill but just couldn't grow to love the music. I've owned all of their albums, got rid of them all except 'Tarkus', but somehow re-acquired a few in recent years, each of which I have only played once. VDGG were the only keyboard heavy band that ever really got me really excited. I think I've had a dawning realisation, Chris. I've known that you and I like different music but I'd never really focussed on the reasons why. It's coalesced by the guitar versus keyboard debate. For you it represents short, sharp and memorable guitar-led tunes. The roots go back to blues and folk. For me it's the big sweeping vistas, strong on texture and slow change rather than the tune. Those roots come from classical. This is worth debating in a new thread!

Yes, but explaining why is a challenge!

Explaining why is a waste of time

One of the best albums ever made for me. Truly stunning record. 10 for me.

I do enjoy 80’s pop and I also like quite a lot of synth music but have never really explored Depeche Mode much, so it was good to listen to a full album of theirs for the first time. I’d like to hear it on my main system.
‘Clean’ was my favourite track - I’m wavering between a 7 and 8 but I'll say 8 …

Andr'e, could you recommend an earlier Depeche Mode album to listen to, please?

"Two minute warning" is Brill Martin. You might notice the whole album uses industrial sound effects like Pies banging on metal Railings etc..

Took it bit of getting into (like all their later albums), but I'm really enjoying the new album.

You know me Andre, I'd much rather see 3 guitarists there than all that keyboardy nonsense. Guitars are tripe imho, teenagers stand in their bedroom mirror pretending to play them instuments, & no doubt grown ups still do it , i cannot stand the sound of them.. Three Keyboard players are doing the same job as Lead, Rhythm & Bass guitarist would do.. But thats OK!?
